Lazio fan killed - Serie A stopped? Sunday 11 November, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter-Lazio and all Sunday’s Serie A games could be called off after a Lazio fan was killed – apparently by a policeman – during a fight with Juventus supporters.
Initial reports are low on details at the moment, but it is believed two groups of Ultras clashed when they crossed paths at a motorway service station in Badia al Pino, Arezzo.
A Lazio fan was killed during the fighting, but it is currently claimed this was an accident caused by police officers.
A shot rang out to try to distract the group and the news agencies are suggesting the bullet struck the Lazio supporter.
An emergency meeting is currently being held between Lega Calcio President Antonio Matarrese and police chief Antonio Manganelli to decide whether to suspend Inter-Lazio or possibly the entire Week 12 fixture list.
There are fears that if it is confirmed a fan was killed by police officers, the tension between them and the Ultras around Italy will rise to dangerous levels this weekend.
Arezzo DA Vincenzo Giacobbe released a statement on the tragic incident. “We are ascertaining the chain of events and how this happened. We are sorry about this fatality.
“Once we have confirmed the responsibility, whoever it was will be rigorously prosecuted.â€
Lazio President Claudio Lotito also confirmed that the San Siro match against Inter could be called off.
“Lazio are ready to step back and not play. We have informed the authorities who will now make the opportune decisions,†said the patron.

BREAKING NEWS: Inter-Lazio To Be Postponed Following Tragic Death
The match between the Nerazzurri and Biancocelesti will be postponed to a later date following the death of Lazio fan.
The game between Inter and Lazio, in program today at 3pm (CET) at San Siro, is heading towards the postponement. Even though it is not yet official, the game will almost certainly not go ahead after a Lazio fan was accidentally shot by a policeman during a fight which erupted between Biancoceleste and Juventus fans at Arezzo.
Apparently, the Lazio fans cornered some Bianconeri fans in Arezzo and a confrontation between the two set of fans degenerated into a fight. Police arrived on location, but according to the latest information, a gunshot hit a Lazio fan who died instantly.
This tragic event occurred early this morning at around 9am. The rest of the Serie A program will go ahead, but all games will start with 10 or 15 minutes delay as a sign of mourning.

looks like Inter - Lazio is postponed all other games delayed 10 minutes. Haven't been able to source an official line though but just got confirmed on RAI International
Bad news all round, relationships between Ultra groups and police have been at a all time low, most Ultra groups target police these days more than other groups.

Atalanta and Milan Ultras have joined together and are rioting against police in Bergamo apparantly.Inter-Lazio has been called off after the tragic death of a Biancocelesti supporter. The other Serie A games are going ahead, but 15 minutes late.
This morning at around 9.00 local time a group of Lazio Ultras attacked a small number of Juventus supporters at a motorway service station in Badia al Pino, Arezzo.
The Bianconeri appealed to a passing police car for help and in the ensuing melee a shot was fired, killing one of the Lazio fans. It is believed the shot went off by accident.
The victim has been named as 26-year-old Gabriele Sandri, a famous DJ in the Rome area who was also well known to members of the Lazio squad and staff.
As San Siro was emptied, Lazio staff members were seen walking away in tears after discovering the name of the slain supporter.
Inter-Lazio has now officially been called off, while the other Serie A games will begin 15 minutes late as a sign of mourning.
There are fears the way this incident played out means fans around Italy will increase the tension against the police and there have already been clashes in Bergamo between Atalanta Ultras and the authorities.
Fans around the country are removing their banners from the stadiums in a sign of mourning and protest.

Serie A didn't need this, sounds like a total accident and the guy who was killed was not involved with any fights, just unfortunate enough to be hit by a stray warning shot."The victim has been named as 26-year-old Gabriele Sandri, a famous DJ in the Rome area who was also well known to members of the Lazio squad and staff.

Post from another site:
"Yes, confirmed. The chieftain of the Arezzo questura (police) confirmed that the shots (there were more, not just one) were all fired from a gun of a police officer that came there with the patrol.
Incidents in Bergamo are continuing, a lot of flares on the pitch, tension between the ultras fraction and even the "fans fraction" of the stadium, and in many stadiums ultras are trying to convince the club boards to postpone games, or protesting with their absence, silence, no transparents and so on..."

Why not in the air?
So if I had a gun, pointed it straight up above my head, and shot straight in the air, it would magically turn back instantly and hit me in the head?

A corteo is basically a march. In Milano, Laziali and Interisti made a corteo to the center of Milano where they stopped at a police station and started to damage it with stones, bottles and flare launches, now the corteo moved back to San Siro.
Some Laziali went to the Arezzo police station to protest. There are now going on the interrogations regarding the accident.
In every stadium no transparents and the only chants (if any, since some are protesting with silence) are those against the police.
In Parma, a corteo was made around the stadium, where they opened some fire extinguishers, the police was just watching and letting them do from the distance.

and I suppose you can back these figures up with some evidence?ozzie owl wrote: The idiots are going to drive the league into a hole. Crowds are already down. Why dont the thugs hire a stadium som where and fight there.
Your comments are miles off line as the incident that lead to the death of an innocent kid in a back seat of a car didn't involve any organised supporter groups. The supporters are protesting about how the police could be so reckless that someone dies over it and yet the league just wants to go on and continue playing matches.
To early to pass judgment as there are plenty of conflicting reports, including a report that the shot that killed the lad was intentional.
