Pele

I would pick Pele, as he performed over a longer period of time and had less protection from referees.

PELE???
The guy was great in an era of average players!

Maradona single handlely won the WORLD CUP for The Argies in 1986!

He was the BEST player to ever grace the football pitch!

Buon Compleanno Dio Maradona!

Diego Armando Maradona (born October 30, 1960) is an Argentine former footballer. He played in four World Cups and received the FIFA award of Player of the century (People's choice) after being voted in 2000 in an international internet fan poll as the best football player of all time.

So next ur goin to say that George Best is a disgrace cos how he lived his life after football????

Maradona was and still is a class act. Ok, he had problems with a drug habit after HE RETIRED from football. But he does some work at Boca's to help develop the young argies.
I judge a persons abilities on the football pitch, not what he does in his spare time or after retirement!

Maradona is the best ever. He took a struggling Napoli side who had never won a trophy to domestic and European glory and to heights they have not reached since and he led an aveage Argentina side to glory.

Maradona was the greatest that i have seen

But pele has done more for the game and revolutionised the 'beautiful game' with his mastery of skill!

Maradona had every bit as much skill as Pele and the rest.

agree but i'm just saying pele came first, and popularised playing with flair. Made kids across the world want to nutmeg defenders etc.
No doubt Diego had just as much skill!

Maradona is a controversial character who speaks his mind, regardless of whom he may upset. He himself would be happy to admit this, no excuses.

He is the guy who has the balls to say what everybody else is thinking.

So yes, Pele is more of a gentleman and someone who has helped soccer to progress many moons after his career, the arguement however, is who is a better footballer?

MARADONA > Pele.

Maradona is unique and it is a huge shame he has not contributed to football since his playing days ended, imo he is someone who could be of huge benefit to a club/ country.

are you certain all these players played in the same era :?: just curious :?:

would it be fair to say most of the Brazilians played alongside Pele at some stage in world beater sides unlike the Argentinian side Maradona lead in Mexico :?:

plus the remaining majority all played in successful club sides whilst Maradona single handedly created history with his club.

Why cant we agree that they were both equally legendary and kings of our game? Fact is many forumites arent old enough to have experienced Pele in his heyday, so it will always be hard to compare.
Bit like comparing Clarrie Grimmett and Shane Warne for example. Different eras, different styles, etc etc
Yes, Chopper, you are being very farchen rude!

getborn simple answer yes they all played beetween 1962-1970 some might have played even past that year and some might have started before 1962 (anyway neville bartos is 100% with what he wrote) both were CHAMPIONS (a word used loosley about other players)
