England coach Steve McClaren has admitted he is disappointed at the continued booing of Frank Lampard.
The Chelsea midfielder has become a regular target of abuse for England fans at Wembley and jeers rang round a capacity crowd when Lampard was introduced for Michael Owen during the second half of the 3-0 win over Estonia.
Although the 29-year-old has shown no sign of being affected by the adverse reaction towards him, McClaren is at a loss to understand why it is happening.
Aside from voting Lampard their player of the season two years running, the England fans also witnessed him produce an excellent display in the friendly draw with Brazil in June and then follow it up with a goalscoring effort against Germany in August.
"I honestly do not know why the crowd boo Frank Lampard," he said. "I have no answers."
"Two years ago he was voted the fans' player of the year two years in a row and when you look at the three games against Brazil, Estonia away and Germany, he was our best player."
McClaren has been the subject of fan derision plenty of times during his short time in charge, notably in Barcelona last March when England struggled to wear down the part-timers of Andorra.
Having presided over a run of five successive qualifying wins that has taken England to the brink of a place in next year's European Championship finals, McClaren is understandably keen not to antagonise the supporters he now appears to be winning round.
Instead, he is calling on Lampard to come through his problems and continue to prove his worth to England on the pitch.
"No-one likes being criticised and booed," said McClaren.
"I wouldn't want it at a club and I don't want it at international level either."
"We have talked about it but I don't think it has affected him."
"He just has to get on with it. All I am concerned about are his performances on the field. It is not about who is criticising him or booing him."

So if he is playing for a unpopular club than why arent they booing Joe cole,Ashley Cole,Shaun Wright Phillips,John terry etc....
Lampard is still a great player and he cops the criticism because him and Gerrard dont form up 2 well...Ashamed by all the English supporters who boo their own players and one of the finest players wearing the england jersey at moment....
Why not boo rooney who couldnt score agoal for 3 years,or Paul Robinson's whose made more f8ck ups than the beatles had hits!
Their probably all Jealous Arsenal,Manutd,Liverpool fans who have seen his boot get the better of their team over ther last few years.....

Want a tissue mate???
Ease up, what does man u, assnal, and liverpoo supporters????
Have u eva thought that maybe the cheslki supporters CANNOT STAND HIM?????
BTW, I like Lampard, and I think he is up their with and beta than Gerrard!

I think in general Gerrard is more popular amongst the poms because of how inspirational he has been as Liverpool captain and all that stuff... so I think with the two of them struggling a bit, he's likely to cop it more than Stevie G...Chelsea007 wrote:So if he is playing for a unpopular club than why arent they booing Joe cole,Ashley Cole,Shaun Wright Phillips,John terry etc....

Barry is in a rich vein of form..Mr Goalie wrote:Forza Roma wrote:im guessing it was because the fans finally realise
Gerrad + Barry = Englands best centre midfield pairing
Couldn't have said it better, yeah i'm biassed but barry has been putstanding and a best on ground performance against estonia already.
i love the way he plays, all heart and he is 100% commited to the england cause,
not to say lampard isnt 100% commited but he needs to improve his england game.
he seems to lose alot of his passing range and like in the world cup, just shoot whenever he is within range.. barry is a smarter player

But they don't play well together, so what's the point of persisting with that partnershipronaldo07 wrote:I agree that barry is fantastic ..
but i also think that lampard is a great player ...
but then i think that gerrard is the best !!
So that Gerrard + Lampard / Barry (depends on who's fit and better at current form)

It's even funnier watching you lot not even get that far. But then it depends on what nationality you are this week. Especially when you can't score against a 10 man italy and it takes a Millwall reject to fuck it up for you.pires7 wrote:no definitely not! cahill's autobiography will have a chapter on his Millwall career that'll go something like this:
Chapter 4: Millwall
Thank fuck I got out of that shit hole.

Sounds like Robbie Williams. When he played Glastonbury he said "last time I was here I got the sack. Thank fuck for that".ibax wrote:cahill's autobiography will have a chapter on his Millwall career that'll go something like this:

On form going into the tournement alot of people, myself included, expected England to make the semi's v brazil/france atleast. Nobody expected anything from Australia other than a good showing. Rooney is partly to blame for your exit, and i was just not impressed that they tried to blame C.Ronaldo for his send off! 11 v 11 england beat portugal, they never looked like scoring.Hawkesy wrote:It's even funnier watching you lot not even get that far. Lampard is a popular face at Chelsea so dont see why they would boo him,its not just the game against Estonia but last few games he has played in at Wembley he is getting booed and he hasnt done much wrong, his last few games he has played well and agree with Mclaren on his statement but he has to work harder now to get his spot back after his injury,
but its disgraceful act booing your own national players.
Also plays for his country with broken toe, shows how much his country means to him but the fans dont see that.
