Fabregas: Henry Intimidated Us

Post by getborn »

Following a fantastic start to the season, Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas says he is likely to stick around for a while, adding that the departure of Thierry Henry has freed the team up.
Arsenal continued their scintillating form with a 5-0 win against hapless Derby on Saturday, retaining their lead of the Premiership after six games.

Arsenal now sit two points ahead of Manchester United in second, but have a game in hand over their rivals.

The Gunners’ form is in stark contrast to that predicted by the purveyors of doom in the pre-season, who suggested that the team would struggle in the absence of Thierry Henry.

On the contrary, according to new Arsenal hero Cesc Fabregas, who believes the team plays with more freedom in the absence of their record goalscorer.

"Henry intimidated us," he confessed in The Times.

"He is a great player but it was not easy to play alongside him.

"We were a bit inhibited - dependent on everything that he wanted to do.

"Everyone was saying that this year without Henry we would be nowhere. That has motivated everyone."

Fabregas himself was rumoured to be on his way out of The Emirates in the summer, meeting with Real Madrid officials, and not ruling out a move in the future.

But after the start Arsenal have enjoyed, Fabregas thinks he’ll stick around for a while. When asked if he saw himself at Arsenal in ten years time, the Spaniard reacted positively.

"Right now, yes," said Fabregas.

"I love everything about English football. The pace of the game, the attacking style.

"I feel like a kid playing in the street."

sounds a lot like what henry said before he left for barca.

Well he wont be going anywhere without a hefty fee!
Football these days there are not many one club players out there, but with the departure of Henry, we learnt the lesson that no player is bigger than the club!!

But cesc aint having a whinge when a teammate makes a mistake and with Henry there was a gulf in (class+experience) between him and the next best player in the team and he couldn't handle it!

Arsenal made the mistake of trying to keep him by giving him the captaincy but that role was a burden for him. So he moved on. The timing was obviously right and he is a legend of the club!!
