the grove had a good night

Post by legga »

What went on at the Grove saturday night going by the Advertiser a wild brawl involving 60 people kicked off. Was it a grove function or had someone hired the hall ?

here is the article, says it was 'end of season function' so must have been B&F night, anyone from Grove wanna fill us in? Was it another club that gatecrashed....???

TWO men are in hospital with serious head wounds after a vicious brawl involving up to 60 men outside an Elizabeth soccer club at the weekend.

Frightened residents were forced to hide in their homes as dozens of men, aged between 18 and 30, "bashed each other senseless".

Soccer club officials blamed gatecrashers at the end of season function for the violence. Resident Matt Purcell said fence posts were ripped off and used by the angry mob as weapons in the clash outside Elizabeth Grove Soccer Club on Dauntsey Rd about 11.30pm on Saturday. "I saw one guy run up to my fence, rip the pole off and run off back into the crowd," he said.

"There were sticks and rocks flying everywhere and guys were all busted up.

"One fella was being treated in the ambulance and guys were still trying to get in there to bash him."

Seven police patrols went to the scene and blocked access to the street as they tried to bring the situation under control. Ambulance officers, however, said they were continuing to send vehicles to the scene more than an hour after the first callout.

Two men were taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital with head wounds. After the initial confrontation on Dauntsey Rd, the violence is believed to have continued at nearby Womma Rd railway station about 1am.

Another man was treated for head injuries by ambulance officers there.

At least four other men, who were not taken by ambulance, also went to Lyell McEwin Hospital for treatment.

Soccer club treasurer Graham Clark blamed gatecrashers for the incident which directly followed the club's end of season function. "I have no idea what started it but I think gatecrashers came for some reason or another," he said.

No arrests were made but police are expected to interview several suspects today.

unfortunately our club presentation night was gatecrashed by about 20 blokes who after earlier beating 2 people up at the elizabeth train station proceded to walk to our club and start on our members who were all having a fantatstic night. things kicked off and unfortunately our chairman and secretary who were trying to negotiate with the group to move on peacefully were king hit and both are now still in hospital with broken jaws. after calling the cops and dispersing the group which we did before they got there this group off thugs then went and beat up another bloke at the womma road station( not as reported in the advertiser involving our members)

the elizabeth grove soccer club are the victims here like those people you hear about that have their birthday partys gatecrashed

over the four years we have been at dauntsey road, we have had a fantastic relationship with our close neighbours and the club will be making sure any damaged caused will be repaired.

once again i feel the advertiser has reported this incident only because it involves a soccer club, and they have made no mention of the earlier incident as it would detract from their story.

i am hopeing that when/if they follow up this article they may actually report it as an unfortunate incident that in todays society happens far to often and that on this occasion happened at a soccer club but could haved happened at someones house or heaven forbid at a football club(aussie rules).
I look at the great Liverpool Team. I think they won about eight League
Championships, and four European Cups. Compared to them I have done nothing

Pity to see the advertiser portay it as such. Glad to hear it wasnt another bunch of supporters starting the all in as happened at the downs a few years back. Vale biffs will know what i mean. All the best to the unfortunate few and may karma catch up with these muppets.

And thats a bit rough finders keepers.

Bugger off. Go sip on chardonnay while you knit you prat..

I hate the fuckin media reporting on violence and soccer, they got a great way of joining the two together at all cost.

Sounds like they could have reported the article from a gang point of view, not a soccer club point of view..

From what I have heard it has smithfield (so called) boys written all over it. Maybe we should pass them an invite for our Presso and we could have Downslow Man on the door....

hear this from a player at the club
the b team goal keeper rocked up late with his mates they were told to quite down cause they were makin a bit of noise then the keeper mate said to him 1 of the player lookin at him wierd, player involved walked over and said no nothin is wrong. then the keepers mate dogged hit him from behind and it was on from there, apprently the mob was still stompin on the chairmen after he was knocked out.

the keeper as been there 4 10 yrs or so i believe should be banned from the club for life, also tryed fighting with his team mates

What a shame that this has happened after the Grove had such a good year and got themselves promoted- not the way they would have wanted the year to finish up. Its terrible that it was a player from the club and his mates.

Events took place exactly as Anfield rd described. No club members were directly responsible for what happened.
I'm very happy to have moved to West Ham, because I can play for a better team than Sheffield Wednesday.

That's good news at least! I hope that there's good news for the blokes went to hospital? Pretty unlucky end to such a great year for your club.

If it is internal, it's a disgrace....

If it's not - then the club has been unfairly made a mockery of by the media... I truly hope (with no bias) that the club were simply at the wrong venue at the wrong time. And if that is the case, then hats off to everyone - and i sincerely hope the gentlemen involved make a speedy recovery from the kind of thing no-one wants to see.
The fact that a clubs name is involved; and if its something they have no control over, then everyone is truly sympathetic.
If you do it topless, I'll give you a Fiddy....

Pretty piss poor effort by the Advertiser  Gang related violence should be reported as such and not drag football or any club into the muck. Hope all is well at the Grove and anyone hurt is on the mend

If it is as Rooney10 say's & the Grove are trying to cover it up there making a huge mistake! Clubs should never tolarate violence especially from there own to there own it just show's a total lack of "RESPECT" & that's breeds like bacteria. I really hope it is as Dicanio say's for the sake of the Grove!!!
