I bet ya if abramovich didnt fork out all that cash on players then chelsea and mourinho wouldnt have won the epl, especially 2 yrs in a row.
Big call. Don't agree either. Of course we will never know but I always thought the whining about the money spent was always taken a bit far. When you look at the squad that won the two titles, the big performers were the players that were already at Chelsea at the time. They didn't go out and put together a Madrid style team with massive named players. One of the biggest signings in terms of money was Essien, who was relatively unknown before coming to Chelsea.
the reason why we say that is, before Robben, Cech, Carvalho, Drogba etc came in you guys finished 2nd to the brilliant Arsenal team in 03/04....i personally think that if those players didn't come in when Mourinho took over you guys would not have won the title
easy Rigoni10, you gotta stop pullin your pesc over that team, they're not playing anymore mate...

in all seriousness though, its a fair point, those players were quite critical and as the special one said - Petr Cech is worth 15points in a season...how big is his influence when he is between the posts...

however, the point is we DID win those titles...

Avram Grant Named New Chelsea Coach

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed that Avram Grant and Steve Clarke will take charge of Chelsea from today.

zoom - galleria The news follows the departure of manager Jose Mourinho, a story that broke in the early hours of the morning.

Since the news was announced, developments have come thick and fast, the latest being that director if football Avram Grant will take the reigns as manager from today, with current assistant manager Steve Clarke staying in his role.

The statement from Chelsea does not suggest whether Grant’s appointment is a permanent measure, however for the time being, the aim of the board will be to steady the ship and ensure continuity.

The 51-year-old, a close friend of Roman Abramovich, joined the club in the summer and was told by Mourinho not to interfere in team affairs.

Until now Grant has held a place on the Chelsea board.

He arrived at Stamford Bridge after working as technical director at Portsmouth. Previously he coached Israel and the clubs Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.

A statement on the club website read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant and Steve Clarke will be in charge of the first team from today (Thursday).

“The club is delighted that in Avram we have an experienced man who can come in immediately at this difficult time to help deliver our objectives.

“In Steve we have a Chelsea man and he will be a crucial part of the management team going forward. Avram and Steve have our full confidence and support.â€￾

well said, it's unfortunate for all fans but there are internal problems... I heard Jose had a bust up with JT....if this is true, its terribile, even though Jose is gone you never want the coach and captain (or any player for that fact) to have a bust up....

now we'll see the team's true character... a MASSIVE game on the weekend, see if we can't get a result...which would be a wonderful effort with all the happenings of the past 48 hours which i'm sure has disrupted the squad in some way...

so true, although he's done well with Holland, he would surely benefit from coaching a club side week in week out.... anyone in his position would...
