Alagich: Proud South Australian!

Post by SAD GAL »

Hats to this wonderful ambassador to the game. She is respected and known by all people who appreciate a classy sportsperson!

She embodies the spirit in which the game should be played in and a role model that I would be proud to follow.

Pity she is no longer in SA. Maybe she may return.

Classy and beautiful person.

Di went to Sydney because thats where she earns her living!! Yes, it would be great to have Di back in SA maybe she can get a transfer from her employer...she would certainly be an asset as a coach either at SASI level or even Premier level. The experience and attitude that she has shown would be a very valuable asset !!

I'm sure that if circumstances allow she would love to come back.

Are you talking about the same Di that I know!!! Confidence in her own ability maybe ..I wouldn't say ego. Yes she is earning her living, womens soccer doesn't pay unlike mens soccer...

She is an integral member of the Matilda team, being in sydney has helped her train with the squad as well as work, i dont think that was possible being in Adelaide. Soooooooo No she's not bigger than Adelaide...

Is she in the National Squad......I think that must say something for her ability..... if you're going to question her ability then go through the entire National Squad..and ask the same questions!!

You must have got her on a bad day!!

I think the bigger question is why dont we see more Sth Aussie players in the squad...whats wrong with our SASI program that we dont see more girls qualifying for National Selection...we have Emma W - GK, Viki B - FW and Di - DF ( and probably in her last year ) at the moment!!

well you can really come to only two conclusions as to why there aren't more sa players in the national side. obviously its the coaching and the set up here.
another point to make is there are so many girls following there friends to other clubs and not staying loyal to a club that will develop and nuture there talent at a young age. how many sides in the last 10 years have kept consistent squads?
the other conclusion andmore likely, is that sa is just not that good and alagich is only playing because they need a player from every state. even though di is from sydney.

I'll agree that the set up at SASI needs to be looked at under a microscope!!

Loyalty - Fulham, City, Metro, Cumbies they have had a consistent team and have certainly nurtured young players now regulars in Prem teams. I dont know whats happening in other leagues..its like anything people go where they think they'll taste success, have good coaching etc..

I dont think I agree with you that SA doesn't have quality players..its more about promoting players and exposing them to the powers that be in National selection....I think the coaching at SASI is tooooo conservative they seem to follow some formula and if you dont fit into it then you're not considered good enough for National selection...........there's no room for players who may not fit the mould but have there own unique way, but skilful enough to be considered!!

SASI coaches need to be pushing our girls more into the lime light for exposure..just like other STATE coaches do for their players!!

DI is a Sth Aussie not a Sydney sider she has combatted knee injuries etc soooooo not doing too bad...she is a nice person......

you named 4 clubs. and i'm not just talking about the past couple of years, its been happening for many years. back when you had teams like sturt marion, modbury vista as the best teams, then everyone jumps ship. where does that leave the younger girls at those clubs?
as for the "knee injuries", who hasn't at one time or another had a knock or two. sounds like an excuse to me.

I have been involved in football for in excess of 10 years and to start talking Sturt Marion and Modbury you are really going back to the dark ages UNCLE CHOP CHOP, Fulham were not around then, Adelaide City were just coming into Premier League, Cumberland were not in Premier League.

To get on this forum and start on Dianne Alagich is pretty low on your part. Maybe she had reason to be rude to you. Di doesnt take crap from anyone. You do not seem to come across as much "Chop" anyway.

Very easy to notice you have no idea of Di's overall Football achievements over a long period of time, and the number of bad injuries she has overcome to be still there at the top level of Womens Football Today. In the end people have to earn a living outside sport. Di now has a career after Football. So you should button up. :x :x :x

Uncle CC (sounds good)

Very well thought out and presented argument/observation on SASI. On the the Di front...You are off the boil. I'm a pretty good judge of character (its my job) and in the many times I have seen her, there is no more humble person than her. Enough on that bit so lets leave it alone.

I don't think a SASI coaching job will pay what she is/can earn in her current job. SASI coaches get very little. To get good coaches, teh pay scale needs to be lifted.

On the soccer front. SASI just had their 21st and from a soccer point of view, our "bang for dollar" is apalling. Like many things in our community, a lot of people pay big tax dollars for the enjoyment of a few. Needs to be some accountability because given the dollars pumped into the program and with so little in return, it doesn't add up.

I am sure there will be the usual suspects who will get on here and bag our well thought out comments (based on fact) with personal attacks on us, however, we know its true.

Di is a great ambassador to our game. Why she is in Sydney is irrelevant. We are all Aussies and she's over there representing me and the other 20 million Australians.

There are many people before Di that you could call arrogant and rude (and you woudl be spot on).

Di has all the makings of becoming one of womens' soccers greatest players. Bar none.

UCC. You have some good points amongst your blast at Di. SportySA you are on the money.

Accountability for money spent!

BTK :

1. DI is a great ambassador for the game of womens soccer, not just Matilda's but for SA..she has shown that we can produce quality players. Her attitude and composure should be held up as the way to act as a rep for your state and country. Like I said in my previous post until women are paid well for the participation in the game of soccer, then they will have to go to where they can earn a living...Sydney or Timbucktoo !!!

2. When will the SA REcreation and Sports take a microscope to the money spent in the SASI program.....compared to the number of women / girls exposed to National camps / National selection!! You would think that a coach would be trying his hardest to get as many players from his / her program trying out for selection!!! Maybe they should do a little soul searching about their intentions for being at the top position!!

3. SA Sport & Rec should be enticing quality ex National players for the top coaching position and pay bonus for all players from SASI program that make National selection!! Salisbury / Aligich / R Aligich when they retire, have heaps of national and international experience...know how to play the game, know how to win....pay for quality not just public service wage!!!

umm they do

and about paying players to come back and coach, the money only goes so far. When u hear of the money the program gets i strongly believe u will seriously think about retracting ur statements

My point, is that there may well be money being spent on SASI program but it would appear..I'm no expert and I dont have insider info as to what and who gets what..but to us mear mortals its not money well spent!!

I appreciate that not all ex players make good coaches..I would have thought that their experience at the top level, would put them ahead of someone who hasn't had that exposure.

How do you run your budget at home...I'm sure that if you spent it all on "floss & gloss" there wouldn't be too much left over for the important things!!

My observations stand I dont see value for money!!

Shorty: I dont think that anyone was trying to detract from Di's contribution to womens soccer by comparing to Richie...the only time he was mentioned was in regards to enticing ex players to coaching positions.....male or female we should be encouraging quality ex players into coaching roles at both the SASI and grass roots level..to ADVANCE SOCCER in this state......

DI IS A QUALITY PLAYER & PERSON....NO question!!!!!!!!!!
