Napoli v Samp

Reja: We Deserved To Beat Sampdoria

Napoli boss Edy Reja was clearly on a high after his side's first home win of the season, saying that he's noticed an improvement in his players' application over the course of the 90 minutes.

zoom - galleria Edoardo 'Edy' Reja declared that his Napoli side completely merited their 2-0 win over Sampdoria this afternoon at home.

"Looking back at our manner of play, this victory was fully deserved," he announced.

"My team dominated every area of the pitch over the course of the 90 minutes, and I'm seeing improvement week on week.

"The team is playing great football together and now we've found a sense of balance."

The ciucciarelli now sit third on six points, having won their last two matches. The veteran manager, though, is too canny to get carried away.

"We'll enjoy this positive moment," he said, "but it's far too early to leap to conclusions."

Sampdoria counterpart Walter Mazzarri blasted his men for what he saw as soft play in the intimidating San Paolo.

"Napoli fought for every ball, as I expected, but we were far too timid in our tackles," he muttered.

"I think we played better, but were poor in front of goal and we also missed the injured Stefano Lucchini."

He went on to wax lyrical about Napoli's Argentine youngster Ezequiel Lavezzi, who proved a decisive factor in the home win.

Mazzarri said, "Even with three or four players crowding around Lavezzi, he showed himself to be a real champion."

Napoli face Empoli away from home next week, while Samp welcome Genoa for the long-awaited Genovese Derby.

a nice win

Post by Football Head »

A nice win by Napoli over Sampdoria, shots went both way by the looks of the highlights and Iezzo Napoli's GK looked solid in goals and was made to work. These are the wins that Napoli need to be getting to stay and make progress in serie A. Empoli next week away they wont be a walk over but lets see what that has to offer.

With Baby Cannavaro and Domizzi back in the side for the last 2 matches, the Blue Donkeys have kept 2 excellent sides in Samp and Udine scoreless and have picked up maximum points.

In seasons gone by both those games against lesser opponents would have both finished in 0-0 stalemates. All the people on this forum and fellow naples fans also would know that the inclusion of lavezzi, gargano and hamsik and the introduction of the black pearl up front have ignited this sleeping giant. The benching of "Super Calaio" is doing the side no harm whats so ever. If you were ever to meet a player who puts his team before his personal glorification EC would be the man. He has publicly announced this in the press and makes him even more hungry when he enters the field of play. It wont be too long until you see him with his trademark bow and arrow goal celebration.

So whats ahead for the team from the Camapania capital? We travel to Empoli and then host Livorno which we have already defeated in the Cup. Even though early days Both these teams sit second bottom and rock bottom. And with Napoli hosting our good friends Genoa at home after these 2 games 15 points from 6 games would turn heads in every aspect of the word.

Napoli's away record last season playing in what i would have to state would have been the most difficult Serie B competition in decades was excellent. The previous 2-3 years before that Napoli's 18-20 draws each season was the catalyst for them not being promoted or missing out in playoff situations. Have we seen the end of the draw specialists?

Anything but 2 wins here vs Empoli and Livorno would be classified as a disaster consdering the positive start that we have had to this campaign. Reja is untouchable at the moment but the knives will be out if we slip up.

The month of October and the return games in March make you want to go on holidays and then come back and slowing check your teams progress. Inter, Roma, Juve, Fiorentina & Lazio all converge. Different cities, Midweek Games, Derbies, Old Rivalries!!! Its too much to take. Will this be the test for the BiancoBlu? You betcha and we cant wait.

The season is still too early to predict and no one is getting too carrried away with our league's position. With no Europe and the occassional Cup Campaign our season has not got too many interuptions and the focus will obviously be the league and to be competitive and stay up so we can give it an almightier shack the following season.

If you would break the season up into 5 parts (lets say 38 games divided by 5 gives you say 8 games) If Napoli were able to collect 10 points in every 7.5-8 games they would finish on 50 points and well away from the relegation dogfight. We have an opportunity to collect 15 points in our 1st 8 games which would set us up so were not playing catch up football. Almost every team this season will go 4-5 games without a win so its imperative that we collect points early.

I will be the first to put my hand up and say that i was dissapointed that Napoli didnt sign a big name midfielder. On the other hand You look at the squads in the Serie A and barring maybe 6-8 teams all the other teams maybe lack a quality player or two.

With Napoli's strong performances at home in front of 50,000 fans each week, their eagerness away from home it should prove for a great season ahead. No matter where they play their football wether it being in Serie A, Serie B or Champions League (Yeah Baby) i know that im a part of this great club and unlike others i dont feel the need to be following 4 clubs around the world from 4 different countries.

My heart always beats white and blue.

Sorry blue mastiff..

Your write up was excellent.

As i was listening to the game on the radio, it sounded as if Lavezzi was having a field day out there. The only way the Samp players could stop him was by fouling him.

I think he is going to be something special and can only get better. At 22 and having played only 3 Serie A games to date, the future is looking bright for him and Napoli.

Same with Hamsik. The guy only just turned 20 and his talent is immense. Marino has done a great job finding these young stars and securing them to lengthy contracts.

Great win by the partenopei, and the team is playing well.
I am very surprised with Zalayeta, I think he will be a great signing for Napoli.
Hamsyk is fricken brilliant, and my mate Lavezzi is ALL CLASS!

In Form Napoli Send Sampdoria Packing

Napoli 2-0 Sampdoria

Goals from Marcelo Zalayeta and Marek Hamsik power Napoli to their second consecutive victory.

Napoli gave their home fans something to cheer about as they outclassed Sampdoria at the Stadio Sao Paulo for their second successive victory.

Napoli were fresh off their 5-0 shellacking of Udinese and continued their good form with Marcelo Zalayeta giving the home side a well deserved lead in the 43 minute.

He slotted home an easy goal after a defensive blunder sent him clear through on goal. The former Juventus man now has three goals in as many games for his new club.

Sampdoria were playing without the likes Antonio Cassano and Emiliano Bonazzoli and they lacked the firepower upfront that is necessary to win away from home in the Serie A.

They never really threatened and played second fiddle to Napoli, who fot man of the match performances from Zalayeta and Ezequiel Lavezzi, who ran rampant and wild down the left flank for most of the afternoon.

Napoli put the game away in the 76th minute when Hamsik was played through with a neat, one touch ball from Zalayeta and he proceeded to round the keeper and slot the ball into open net.

It was a good performance by Napoli and they should have added a third but Blasi failed to tap in with the wide open net at his mercy.

Reggina: Iezzo; Cupi, Cannavaro, Domizzi, Grava, Blasi, Hamsik (Bogliacino 87), Gargano, Savini (Contini 78), Zalayeta, Lavezzi (Calaio' 89)

Sampdoria: Castellazzi; Lucchini (Gastaldello 14), Sala, Bastrini (Franceschini 65), Zenoni, Palombo, Sammarco, Delvecchio, Pieri, Caracciolo, Montella (Bellucci 74)

Super win on sunday, but it didnt much surprise me. We need to take max points in the next few games, because after that we play 4 of the big 6 in succession.

regardless, I am enjoying this little napolitani renaissance.

Very good result at home - Naps weathered a few early chances but were all over Samp in the second half. Domizzi must be clearly knocking on the door of the national team, and Cupi has come back from a bad injury to become a force again in Serie A. Gargano, Hamsik and Blasi are beginning to find some nice rhythm in the midfield and El Pocho and Zalayeta are doing the business up front. The only concern are the flanks with Grava and Savini probably not quite up to week in, week out Serie A standard. Although, we have good prospects on the bench in Garics and Rullo.

I like Mr Goodnewsweek better to be quite frank

La frase boia chi molla significa letteralmente: «chi molla è un boia», «chi abbandona (molla) la lotta è un vile assassino (boia)». ...
