Canon 40d is out
I see the new Canon EOS 40d is out.
Think I will swap my 20d for the 40d.
Like that it is faster, has sensor auto cleaning function, larger lcd screen - the screen on the 20d is just too small and much larger buffer.

awwwwww crap
sounds good... very goodA 10.1 Megapixel Canon developed CMOS sensor and DiG!C III Image Processor combine to deliver superb image quality with low noise and natural colour. Key new features include the EOS Integrated Cleaning System and Live View Shooting (with AF capabilities). With the ability to capture up to 6.5fps in incredible 14-bit colour, the EOS 40D is the only option for the enthusiast photographer.
impetuous... i went and brought a 40D yesterday from Ted's at Marion
end result... not much different from 30D as far as image goes...

speed was great... still very noisy shutter...
there are some other minor improvements over the 30D from a users point... so all in all happy with it...
do need to tweak some settings... and read the manual...

Cleaning system is a big one for me. I quite often get dust in the camera.thunders wrote:impetuous... i went and brought a 40D yesterday from Ted's at Marion

Air shows are a classic for that - there is always a lot of dust around and the only way to avoid it is not changing lens.
Dont mind cleaning the sensor but its not really practical when you in the middle of a shooting session.
So any further updates on your new 40d? Its been three days since your last update:)thunders wrote:impetuous... i went and brought a 40D yesterday from Ted's at Marion

nope... haven't used it since... and dunno what i will do this weekend... wanted to go watch Modra play down in the SE, but i think that is at Naracoorte and don't have the time to travel that far...
I guess the chicks still have a round to go... plus cup finals...
Would like to get out and take something different

Looking at the photos - they appear to be sharper - are you manual or auto focusing? Maybe the 40d is faster focusing?thunders wrote:impetuous... i went and brought a 40D yesterday from Ted's at Marion

well that was my 1st impressions while using it... just felt like everything was happening quicker... less wasted shots...
the shots looked great on the LCD, but i didn't notice a huge difference once i started working on them to upload...
but it is interesting that you noticed a difference... i think i need to open up the F stop to add a bit more depth of field...
as an example...

i think that both players should be sharp... rather than the just the Para Hills player...

I think the player that is facing you should be sharp whereas the other player - because you cant see the face - is of much less significance. In fact it might make the picture more interesting if the other player (and the spectator behind was even further out of focus ie less distracting.thunders wrote:well that was my 1st impressions while using it... just felt like everything was happening quicker... less wasted shots...

I did feel there was a difference when I went through your photos. Maybe the lighting was a factor because Malvern Fox also had one of his best series of shots this weekend. But my initial thoughts was it looked like the focus and shutter are working a lot faster and the gap between the focus and the shot is much smaller - so the action is getting caught in focus.

Nikon has lagged Canon for a few years. Nikon are only just catching up now.malvernfox wrote:whats the matter with you guys, why aren't you swapping to Nikon's
The Nikon D300 looks like a very good camera. Its almost as good as the 40d

Once you have splashed out for a good lens kit it makes a change very unlikely unless someone produces a camera that is really special.
