Gully or the Vale?

Post by Mr Football »

So who does everyone think will win and by how much?

Who do you want to win?

I think Vale will get up bout 3-1, as much as i hate to say it, i would like to see Gully get up :? i still have some mates in the side and it would give div 2 some respect

The year of back to backs. Downs A,s and B,s, Farmers reserves in the cup and the Vale in the cup - 1 nil on penalties. One can only hope Gully snatch a classic victory...

I saw both teams for the first time this season in the semi-finals and based on those performances, I expect the Vale to win easily but as proven in the 2002 Reserve Cup, the under-dog can defy all and win! AMDG :D

Good luck to both teams.

Dont even know why the Gully will bother turning up. Everyone is giving them no chance.

They are probably the biggest underdog in a cup final since Wimbledon played Liverpool in 1988. I cant really remember who won that one...

Happy Kopite , I was just going to say we may as well just forfeit the game and lose 2 nil. At the end of the day we made it to the final which is a great achievement, if we play well and lose, then so be it, but Im sure we will take a lot from the game for the future. I think the pressure is on the Vale as they are expected to win, in saying that we would like to see how we go against the vale, as they are, on their day just as good as the Downs, who, as we continually get reminded  took out Div1. So really we are just looking to play at our best and see what happens. 8) i know Brad will be thinking differently! PS........ Vale can wear WHITE strips on the day !!! My tip Gully 3 Vale 2

I think a lot hinges on how the youngster at the gully can mark brooksy. He is so good with his touches and pin point 40 yard balls. Maybe a job for the mighty hassel?? Brooksy may be unfit and sluggish, but he is still one of the best out there in my opinion. Vale have the experience and gully have the pace i think. Will be very interesting.....

Their win against the Downs but their position on the league indicates to me that there are two Vale teams.
Which one will turn up in the final?
If TTG can chase, close down and niggle the Vale who knows what could happen. A send-off, an injury, or just complacency could cost the Vale the game.
I think the Vale can lift for the final but they definitley lift more if they are playing the Downs. No matter what the occasion.

The young boys said unto him....."go up baldhead, go up"......so he did, rose like a salmon and nodded the ball into the net......1 nil! :-)

Good onya teapot...

Biggest underdog of all time??
Let my mind go back to the year 1998..
Cup final Eliz Vale vs Inter, Vale had won the league EASILY(10 points), with a very strong side(of which a few will be back out there on this cup final) and Inter had finished third bottom with one win out of last 4 , the last of the season to stay in division one.So Vale were obvious favourites and would rightfully have been predicted to win easily. It was a poor Inter side (worse than this years) and were happy to be there!!

Final Score:Salisbury Inter 6 Elizabeth Vale 5 on penalties

dejavu????? Nah!!!maybe!!!!!!!!!!!
at least we're still a chance.................

I think getting up against the Downs will have taken a lot out of the Vale.
Without Peacey in goal I think they will concede a couple or 3 against the speed of Gully. (Vale conceded 39 goals in 18 league games this year in a low scoring season (plus 8 more in cup games), Gully conceded only 23 against some quality attacks and beat Para Hills East 3-2 , West Beach 5-0 and Adelaide Villa 1-0 on their way to the Cup Final)I think that the Vale will need to score at least 2 to counteract Gully on the day.
After all, Vale are the team that are going into the final as favourites and will carry that extra expectation with them.
Zafran's tactical endeavours may win it for the Vale but I have a hunch that Gully might just get there on the day!

Vales form
3-2 v Downs (Cup)
8-1 v Para Hills East
3-3 v Inter
2-2 v Ingle Farm
3-2 v Para Hills West (Cup)
1-3 v Para Hills West
3-3 v Florina
1-3 v Fulham
3-3 v Gardens
Not too good defensively!!
Gully have only conceded 2 goals in their last 8 games!!

Have to score goals to win games. Peacey is a big loss. He'll still make an impact from the sideline though. Was standing next to him for a while on Sunday, he is still a nutter but a funny ba$tard

I forgot to mention Gully hadn't lost in those last 8 games 19 goals for and 2 against!

Brad, please that's Mr Teapot to you!!

I think you may have missed the sarcasm in my post. I cant believe some of the idiots on here giving you guys no chance. You dont make the cup final by accident. So I was comparing you guys to the Wombles of Wimbledon who rolled us over in 1988.

Only 2 teams in the final and 11 men each. So you've got a pretty good chance by those stats!

Good luck to you.

gully will have to watch there back post as the vale practise this move most if not every training...... they scored 2 against us from the back post... Ivan loves his team to steam through the middle then spred the ball wide for a cross to the back post.... they are very good at it..... however gullys team is younger and faster... maybe not as experienced... hope the gully boys run the vale into the ground..... GO THE GULLY....
