Semi Finals

Post by A Mature League »

Heading off to Grange for the Cup Semi-Finals
I'm tipping A's - Downs v St Peters final
B's Ingle Farm v West Beach final
Should be a good day with a big crowd for SAASL

I thought we only played in patches today. Gardens had some chances but didn' take them. The first goal they got was a lucky but good header. The second was a massive stuff up by us. We got our first early when they appearred asleep.

We took the foot off the pedal to many times today. Hopefully we will play a lot better in the final and deserving win something this year.

Didn't see much of the Beach/East game. Anyones thoughts.

PS. I'm spewing the keeper saved my volley. I thought it was in. Doh.

good battle 4 the gullies. derek scoring a cracker early then limping of 5 mins later.reasonable first half by us followed by an ordinary second, credit to st peters they were stronger in the second. scoring a penalty and applying the pressure.1-1. extra time we seemed to repick the intensity back up and richie then greg confirming the result. :D :D :D :D :D

Vale 3 Downs 2 - vale scored in the last minute
Gully have got a very young looking side. Didnt see much of the game but looked like they had the better legs.

In the other semi I thought Downs shaded the first half but seemed a bit negative in the second, alot of long balls. #11 for Vale had a good game constant threat down the right. Thought Brooksy showed his class today. Some of his touches, stepovers and passing were brilliant. It was his header that won it after he had set-up the 2nd equaliser with a great cross.....

Great comeback by Vale showed great bottle 2nd half after the double miss (penalty save and rebound over the bar). However, the penalty did seem soft.

There were two contentious decisions made by the Officials. The throw-in goal and the goal mouth scramble. I was right behind both and the throw-in was touched, only just though. The goal mouth scramble was in, but the linesman who was in a perfect position too see, disagreed. Vale keeper even agreed it was in.

As a neutral supporter the banter between the two sides is fantastic, both clubs have great supporter bases. The "Get some nuts" (Snickers ad) banter by a Vale fan and the "Throw it in the net" by the Downs supporters was gold.

Overall, the Vales 2nd half fightback deserved the win.

If i had to give three votes:

3. Brooksy
2. #11 Vale
1. #2 Downs (had a very good first half)

The Vales #11 had a great game.

On the Throw in goal, the linesman was telling the ref there was no touch but the ref disagreed. Looks like Vale dodged a bullet with the goal mouth scramble.

Looks like the Downs didn't learn from last years mistake ??

Not surprised, Vale played extremely well against us in Round 16..

Brooks and Chris Nicholls killed us up front in the second half

Heard some arrogant knob in a red FFSA shirt say after the Downs v Vale Semi-Final that he "thought he was watching a Reserves game ....and that the standard was pathetic".
At least these Clubs play games in front of more spectators than some of the Premier and State league teams....In a few years he'll be looking for a gig with some Amateur league team and realise how tough these leagues can be!

Rooney, wouldnt say you lost it for you boys at all, 2nd goal equaliser was a cross then scamlble which fell in the box, and the 3rd was a far post header, was like watching a re-inactment, as we lost to the Vale in same circumstances in the Qtr Final, with Brooks scoring in the 89th minute,

From where I was standing didnt look like Ross got a touch on the Downs 2nd goal, but his reaction after the goal was awarded mean he may have got something on it, as surely to conceed like that he woulda fired up more so.

You had a good game Red, the loss of Blackwood had a big influence on you guys, clearly shows how important he is the the make up of the Downs team.

Ingle Farm and Beach Final... should be a brusing encounter!! Farm would have to be Favourites as Cup holders and they have had the better of games against the Beach in the last couple of years!!

Buffalo had a great game yesterday..his first goal since he was 12!!Beach played well in patches..and now have a few injuries so longbomb will be call in to the squad.

Good piss-up in the Ramsgate after..I think the Buffalo got kicked out three times! No good comes from Jagerbombs

Yeah, I'm struggling a bit at work today. Good at the time though.

Buff's strike was worthy of a winning goal in Escape To Victory.

Farmers def favourites.
