FOOTBALL STARS OF TOMORROW
In case you missed it on FoxSports 3 last Wednesday, SA gets a mention on the Football Stars of Tomorrow program (repeated on SBS tomorrow afternoon)
3.30pm - 4.00pm.
There is a 5 minute segment about the Friendship Games with an U14 SA Player interview.
Good publicity for SA.

maybe we should ask wendy carter for some input to this.............how are we going to give girls incentives to work for without a clear chance at a career path ?SAD GAL wrote:The best publicity for SA girls and their push to make it to the big league is with the Womens' National Soccer League. After State, there has been no forum in which our senior girls are able to push their claim for a spot (or tryout) for the National teams! Unless you're in the State Institue of Sports programs, you have no chance.
A fair dinkum WNSL has not been around for at least 4 years and may not be back again for quite some time.
Not good!
At all State Championships there are people watching for players whom they believe are future prospects and they would discuss these prospects with respective State Institute of Sport coaches. One will probably see in the next intake at SASI whether certain players are in the picture.
As far as National League goes this may start up once the Matilda's have been to World Cup and the expenses cease for that. Thats my view.

also it isnt just about getting in the national squad...
emma went to college in the US and is now in the aus squad - many girls are currently over there under scholarship with various colleges and could possibly get the chance when they return..
nenita burgess went over the the states and has now been selected in teh philipines national squad...
so, settle down give the girls time... it will happen.
kirralea currently injured will be knocking on the youth aussie door soon (hopefully)
and theres plenty of talent around... the girls just have to believe in themselves and it could all pann out for the best...

Shorty. As Mark Holden would say:
Crapeeola.
Ask them ladies (bar Di) where they originate from and they would proudly say....WA NSW, or elsewhere (and rightfully so). For F'! sake Cheryl and lisa and Collette haven't been in SA playing soccer since Eve was in nappies. And they are not products of The System in SA.
I'm talking born bred and developed through "THE program" and now playing for Australia.
Will happen? WHEN? If the girls don't stay in Oz and work in part time jobs and basically struggle then they may get a gig in the Matildas. If they go o/s then they're forgotten about. I'm sure you can name many excellent players that are o/s (not college) and are not even considererd for the National team.
The absence of a WNSL and a strong SA presence in National teams is killing us.

Then Krazy...and Shorty....Why are you guys in the game at the level you are at? If you're happy to be playing in SA and are resigned to the fact that you are not going to get a crack at the big time, then that's ok.
But to offer only one resposne "get over it" is resigning to the fact that you are happy where you're at. That's ok but not ok for many others.
"Not just about getting into the National squad?" Maybe for those outside of SASI. I'm sure the heirarchy at SASI won't appreciate that attitude. For those who have missed the boat ie Nenita, & co. your comments may be pertinent.
What then have the young ones got to aspire to? I
Lets get OVER it!
Its a disgrace that Kirralea is not there and a couple of others too. I rate them much much higher than probably the selectors do. She would be my 1st pick bar none! Seen her a couple of years ago and at the last WNSL in SA and she was a beauty. I reckon back then at least 5 girls from SA should have been in the Youth squad.
Selection is not based on flair and creativity. This was obvious at the Olympic Qualifying debacle. Pol Pot has made comment on that topic.

its a long hard process - and when there's ppl like u knocking the system its hard to get the young ones to aspire to anything...
how about if u have any worries call kevin and ask him if u can help out and get these girls into aussie camps and so on...
leppa will be the first to back me up when i say that when u go away to a camp there isnt just south australian girls there - theres girls form ALL OVER the country...
some ppl just think its a one way thing when its not...
personally i tihnk kirralea should still be there (injury) but shes fighting against probabaly up to about 10 other girls fighting for that one position.. its even worsefor lep - fighting for only ONE position...
its not easy mate...

Steps in the right direction are starting to happen.
There are a lot a young girls out there with the talent, potential, and most of all the will to succeed and play at the highest level they can.
The new 'Rising Stars' program which SASI and SAWSA are running is one example of a step in the right direction. The feedback from Tracey and Kevin has been that they are very excited about the younger talent coming through (and we are talking about U13 and U14 players here). Although the turn-out to the first session of this squad since the state teams returned was a little disapointing, there were 2 of the 7 girls there who couldnt train due to injuries but still wanted to be there, which at 13 and 14 years of age demonstrates some commitment.
Things are going to take time, but we are gradually going to catch up with the eastern states, it will just take commitment from everyone involved with womens soccer in SA.
