Hamburg Hand Juventus Another Defeat

Post by getborn »

It is simply not going to plan for Claudio Ranieri. At least not yet, as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Hamburger SV thanks to an 85th minute strike from Choupo-Moting.

What was more worrying, perhaps, was the fact that the display was down compared to that against Newcastle.

Claudio Ranieri started with Del Piero and Palladino up front, but it was a scoreless and lacklustre first half as neither of the two sides showed much.

Things improved thereafter, with Rafael Van der Vaart coming close for Hamburg, and Del Piero, Boumsong and Cristico for Juventus.

Castelen and Zidan caused some problems for Juve, and Salihamidzic delivered some good crosses at the other end, but it still looked like it would end scoreless as the game moved into the final ten minutes.

That almost changed in the 81st minute, when Almiron struck the post immediately after coming on for Zanetti.

However, it was to be Hamburg's night, as substitute Choupo-Moting beat Belardi with five minutes left on the clock to heap a second consecutive defeat on the Old Lady.

Hamburg: Rost - Demel, Reinhardt, Mathijensen, Benjamin - Trochowsky, De Jong, Brecko - Van der Vart, Castelen; Zidan.

Substitutes: Hosl, Kompany, Olic, Jarolim, Choupo-Moting, Saka, Addo, Sam.

Juventus: Belardi - Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Boumsong, Criscito - Blasi, Nocerino, Zanetti (80’, Almiron), Salihamidzic - Del Piero (85’, Nedved), Palladino (82’, Iaquinta).

Substitutes: Vanstrattan, Zebina, Andrade, Grygera, Chiellini, Molinaro, Tiago, Marchionni, Trezeguet.

I'm not too worried. Bar a few, it was a second string team and in the end it was only a late goal that won it. Almiron hit the post in 80th minute, so a bit of bad luck. If we do this after the Birra Moretti and the Berlusconi cup, then its time to start worrying.

whats the deal u test? buffon didn't play nor did half their regular 1sts and ranieri stated he wanted to give the guys who didn't play against Newcastle a run. + the two teams Juve played have been training longer.
That's the point of a friendly/trial match

When u play friendlies pre season and don't win do you automatically think your season is finished?

yeah but when youre trying to prove to the world that u can challenge for the title then winning friendlies becomes all that more important.

I know teams play alot of their seconds in friendlies but it's always good to get a morale boost before the league starts! An example was inter, they lost against valencia and arsenal but even though they played alot of youngsters they still copt it from the press, thats football! A friendly is never played in a friendly manner, especially when two prestigous teams go head to head.

R U Serious mate???
A friendly is a game where coaches TRY out new players and diff tactics.
The younger guys are tested where NOTHING IS AT STAKE if you lose.
Yeah AC Milan, Real M, Man U, Melb Victory and Inter won ALL their friendlies last year???????

It was to try out youth players and new formations most likely, pre-season friendlies mean nothing if you know what you're doing... If Juve lose a week before Serie A kicks off, then there's some cause for concern...

Amazing how many people react to a Juve loss compared to a Madrid loss.... (i.e - no concerns, match means nothing, it's all good ---switch teams---- hope they lose, glad to see this, screw them...) lol
