referees
the referees in the amateur league are S H I T. we had the ref with that big mole under his eye today and he was a joke. he sent off 3 of our players in the second half and last week he sent of 2 players in the inter vs east game so in 2 weeks hes sent of 5 players. referees think the games are all about them there a joke. in todays game i can only agree with 1 of the send off's which was when the keeper bought the striker down in the box (last man) but the others were a joke. the referees need to lift there game coz there costing to many teams to many games. ref with the mole if u read this GIVE UP COZ YOUR TERRIBLE.

Ah yes he was the man responsible for one of our players ending up with a broken nose and cheekbone .
player responible had already elbowed a player in the face and not even got a talking to. 10 minutes later what do you know smack another one resulting in a yellow card and the above mentioned injuries .
had he been drinking at half time today as well ?
apparently a couple of beers at half time ease his nerves

Referees
Get the message, the refs you have left (not many remember) are all there is. The rest have retired or walked away sick of the apalling behaviour in the league over the years.
The abuse, lack of support and violence has led them away.
Don't worry about poor refs, in about ten years you wont have any refs to complain about.

The Knights v Croatia game today was watched by 2 of the Leagues Executive Committee members and both stood there and watched one of the worst refereing displays even seen.
When the Knights player was blatently kicked in the back by the Croatian captain infront of the ref only for ref not to see it and therefore not send him off, what does that say.
As much as we whinge and moan and complain about the standard of the refs in our league, if incidents like this are going to be witnessed by the league vice chairman and the secretary ( who both admitt they saw the incident ) and they dont do anything about it, what chance of change have we got ?
As for the Croatian captain, thats another story for another time and place.

Whilst they saw it, they commented "yes but what must your player have said?" - so forget trial by video it's now trial by ESP honestly they came to the game because Croatia have been in a lot of trouble recently and then their captain does that???The Mexican wrote:The Knights v Croatia game today was watched by 2 of the Leagues Executive Committee members and both stood there and watched one of the worst refereing displays even seen.

Is it the abuse or the fact that they don't taken action on the trouble making teams that gets rid of the referee's???

if the above scenario is true (the members of the exec saw the kick), surely they have the powers to charge the player for 'bringing the game into disrepute'?
will the league take a softly softly approach like it did with another club not so long ago, or will it take a player to headbutt a ref b4 they do anything???

the league are gutless....ofcourse they won't do anything about it..having said that, if they were there to watch fro themselves the antics of the Croatin team/club, they would not have been impressed by what they saw.MegaBonus wrote:if the above scenario is true (the members of the exec saw the kick), surely they have the powers to charge the player for 'bringing the game into disrepute'?

Pontians Vikings ref.....
The guy we had today at Pontians was a disgrace too. At the kick off he hid the coin from our captain and awarded the toss to Pontians when we called it right. There was almost an all in brawl 10 minutes from time when a Pontians player king hit one of the Vikings players and the referee did nothing. Every decision went Pontians way all day, I'm not making excuses for the game and Pontians deserved the victory as they were the better team but it would have been a lot closer if the ref had been slightly un-biased.
They are ruining the game for everybody.

always whining about the refs and yes if they werent there we'd be subject to even more biase by home club officials....perhaps an idea for the future could be that every club must have one rep who is willing to undergo training as a ref under the age of 135 for the inclusion of that club in the league.....this would maybe ensure the longevity of referreeing rather than some long retired gerries getting some tax free cash without losing the pension.....just an idea and no disrespect to the good officials out there...
Bit harsh Mr Devil, looked to me that Kirk knocked the card from the refs hand, and I heard he had pushed the ref (I didnt se that) but if so surely Red? Kaftan's was a bit harsh as he genuinely went for the ball. Alridge was obvious.reddevil wrote:i reckon he must of had a few drinks at half time coz our coach made a sub when we had two players sent of where he took of one player and put two players on. the only reason the ref realised was coz a few of the players from the other team said something.

Handyman - No disrespect to your suggestion but I ask all: who from any club will put their hand up to a) sacrifice watching their own team on a Sunday to referee elsewhere b) risk walking into a potential "war zone" with the reputation of their beloved club hanging over their head and little protection (it wouldn't be long before everyone worked out where each ref came from)
I agree it's getting worse and needs to be addressed.

fair call mate but seems like a pretty bleek future for our game at the present rate..... i know we all have a bitch about the refs on here but maybe its time that all of us started contributing to the cure rather than to the problem...... the more suggestions and different perspectives we get the more chance we have of finding an answerGully_Geeza wrote:Handyman - No disrespect to your suggestion but I ask all: who from any club will put their hand up to a) sacrifice watching their own team on a Sunday to referee elsewhere b) risk walking into a potential "war zone" with the reputation of their beloved club hanging over their head and little protection (it wouldn't be long before everyone worked out where each ref came from)

I'm just guessing ????, but I doubt if any one of you out there has ever had the guts, nerve, stupidity....or whatever you might call it, to do a refereeing course and enlist to put something back into the game rather than just blame the referees for everything.
Any potential referee reading these forums would be thinking f#@! that for a joke.
Try pointing the finger at coaches or club officials who allow certain players to behave disgracefully whilst wearing their club shirts.
Referees will always make mistakes (granted, some more than others), live with it and move on.

Sorry, but i'm out of suggestions at the moment - it's been muttered that maybe the clubs should all throw more money at it ( a ref's pool), that's all well and good if we see a vast improvement in referee quality and attitude, downside is we could end up paying the same bunch $150+ a game with zero benefit ?

i think he meant that every club should nominate a reliable supporter to undergo training as a ref and that person just refs their respective home games.
if thats what he meant, then i still disagree bcos there arent very many trustworthy teams in the amateur league unfortunately. just look at some of the linesmen. ive only ever seen one fair linesman and that was today.
there are alot of clubs that have the same cheating linesman and his flag is stuck on auto. just goes up every time!!
unfortunate but true. the referee situation will always go down hill from now on until they pay the referees more i think.[/quote]

surely money isnt the issue here....are you guys saying that they are rubbish in protest for being underpaid??? if each club had an offical ref which didnt neccessarily ref in the same div then every game would have a ref and there would be no biase if they are doing another division....those allocating the refs could then see which ref is affiliated with which club and not give them games in the same division....probably too hard but worth considering..... i do agree however with the comment about clubs allowing certain individuals to harrass/bully/threaten refs.....tighter measures should be taken against continuous offenders..

im not saying the current refs are rubbish in protest of being underpaid, im saying that if referees got paid more, its more of an incentive for others to undergo the referee course. i do agree aswell, that the main issue is the supporters and players and clubs should punish the offenders/abusers. as for the supporters, surely if they respect the club enough, they will pipe it down if the club committee requests.

I've seen a few dogdy ones, but I have to say both linesmen for Flinders on saturday were excellent - not just fair but keeping up with the play and that is always good to see.silentassasin wrote:ive only ever seen one fair linesman and that was today.

Common denomenator in people on this thread complaining about the refs appears to be poor disciplined behaviour from players... where does the responsibility of the players for fair play come into it? or are we always looking to push the blame? don't worry i think i know the answer!
I guarantee you if a game is played "fairly" by both teams the referee would have a great game... unfortunately the amateur league is a bunch of thugs and hot heads, no wonder the refs have "bad" games the players are so "bad" too!!
No matter how much money you try to give to the fed refs i doubt any of them would ref amateur league... it's not worth risking their safety, so money is not the answer. The only way to improve the reffing standard is for all the players to get together and say okay... we're gonna play fair today... e.g. it's never gonna happen!!

The ref from the Downs v Ingle Farm did quite well no real major dramas and a credit to the 2 young linesmen who also did a good job. One of them only looked about 14 yrs old. We even had an official ref for the reserves game which was good to see..

Mega the Amateur League have for as long as I've been involved always taken the easy approach - they will often delay a decision and hope that by the end of the season the result isn't important and the whole thing will go away.MegaBonus wrote:if the above scenario is true (the members of the exec saw the kick), surely they have the powers to charge the player for 'bringing the game into disrepute'?

I knew they would do nothing about our game v Pontians but i naively thought they would act after Pumas v TTG. Now I am certain that they will do nothing again despite witnessing the incident first hand!

He's not an offical ref, he is our club referee. He used to be a referee but retired to just do our home games. I believe Parafield are using him for their home games when it doesn't clash with us.legga wrote:The ref from the Downs v Ingle Farm did quite well no real major dramas and a credit to the 2 young linesmen who also did a good job. I can see why you are saying that Legga after yday's game in the B's he definately didn't give Farm much yday, that goal he disallowed was a disgraceful decision...even players on your team couldn't believe it.
