West Ham swoop to sign Ljungberg

Post by ADELAIDE OWL »

West Ham have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg, BBC Sport understands.

The Hammers will unveil the 30-year-old Sweden international at a press conference at 1400 BST.

Ljungberg, who was also a target for Fiorentina, joined the Gunners in a £3m deal from Halmstads in 1998 and scored 72 goals in 325 games for the club.

He had two years left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided to sell him.

Ljungberg, who was Arsenal's longest serving player, struggled with injury last season and played just 26 games.

Bye Bye Freddie.

Damn, the old guard are leaving one by one.

I wonder what Wenger has in his plans, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't replace Freddie because Theo has looked superb in pre-season, he has a good chance to have his breakout year.

Bye Bye Freddie.

We loved you mate, he was a great servant and was a pivotal part of 2002 and 2004 championship winning teams.

Good money made by Arsenal here because Freddie has been down on form in the past year and has been hit by injuries. Good luck at the Hammers buddy

he should have joined Fiorentina, but West Ham will no doubt have a stronger team especially with their re-building this season.

plus we got out of paying his 60,000 pound wages per week for the next two years.. he is just not worth that amount anymore..

I'll be happy with this trade if im arsenal / west ham fans ...
ljungberg won't guaranteed as the 1st team player in arsenal, but then he'll do just fine for west ham ..

westh ham should be quite strong next season !!
