Whats with the 'staying' back for drinks' comments????

why do people continuously mention whether or not the opposition fans stayed behind for drinks. is that the only way we can judge the opposition??? cant people catch up before or during the game???

i can think of countless of reasons why i need to leave soon after the final whistle on a sun evening!!!!

ive been playing amatuers since 1988 from div 1 down to div 5 and now back upto div 2 with 2 different teams. i have played against just about every team there is to play!!! and they are all different. some teams do and some dont, it doesnt make them bad or good get over it!!!

with all due respect a typical comment from someone who dosent stay for a drink.....i can think of plenty of reasons too like my family, children etc etc.....but 10 mins and 1 drink isnt gonna get me divorced....there are no excuses for it ....its antisocial....and not every single club member has commitments on a sunday night....

THE GROVE IN ROUND 2 WERE ASKED BY BRAHMA LODGE, IF YOU DRINK OUR BEER AND COME IN TO THE CLUB AFTER THE GAME, WE WILL DO THE SAME. BUT THAT DIDNT HAPPEN AS WE DRANK THERE BEERS DURING AND AFTER THE GAME. MAYBE THEY FOLLOW THERE O/35's POLICY "DON'T SUPPORT ANYONE AS WE ARE CELTIC"

Have no issues with people not staying for a drink afterwards. I have my kids every other weekend and have to leave immediately, to pick them up. I'll normally grab a drink from their bar for the journey home.

BUT teams that bring their own beer, now that annoys me.

Handyman, I reckon you are being a bit harsh. Not staying back is far from anti-social but bringing your own food and drinks, and then leaving the mess behind definitley is.

of the 5 away games this year, ive remained for a drink 3X.

read your initial comment......you sid it not me......i dont believe thats ignorance.....so you saying to me that when we played san marco at campbelltowns ground they had no cmmitments and they were all there drinking but today they ALL happened to have a reason to leave....get real buddy........

and rob you didnt even stay after training wen you played at the beach...have you changed your ways???

some clubs do, some dont. some individuals do, some dont!!!

it doesnt make anyone a better/worse person or club!!!

i just dont agree that you can judge people or clubs based on if they do or dont!!!!

some clubs (mod vista) even invite the coaches in for a drink (a favour to be returned this week), that was great when they did it but i dont expect everyone to do it!!!

There were countless nights I stayed back after training with Peter B, Wayne, Dave, Oscar etc but that was BC (i.e. Before Children). That was a very long time ago - great days at a great club - but you have made me curious, Mr Handy_man. Reveal your identity to me please!

I think its the right thing to do. We always try to hang around for a drink. Its just a way of saying thank for hosting the away team. Not everyone can always hang around but surely 6-7 can stay for one drink. Its a good way to get to know people at other clubs and support them over the bar. Also good way for players to have a chat and leave what happened on the park. We don't hang around for ages but there is always most of the A's, the coaches and committee that go in for a drink. I guess if teams don't want to stay then they wont. Dont whinge and complain though if you ever look for a favour from other clubs if you don't come in for a drink.

I do hate teams that bring their own drinks to games. We keep our prices very low ($3.50 for beer) so that it doesn't make it that much cheaper than buying it from a bottlo. What really annoys me is when clubs bring drinks and sell it to there supporters. Thats just disrespectful

i dont need to get it pal coz you say it all yourself..... why return the favour and be a sheep....how about taking the initiative like vista and be the shepherd!! i think others should know what to expect from certain visiting teams so then they too can return the favour as you put it so well...

nah mate no halos here.... every time you reply you contradict yourself and put a new twist to the topic which if im not mistaken was about clubs hanging around for a drink which you appear to be happy with and i believe is antisocial.....

the club i play for have always made everyone feel welcome and a group of us always stays at away games for a drink....... me personally i have invited all who wished to attend from other clubs, the functions i have organised and will continue to do so.... probably not worth sainthood but come down and we'll have a drink anytime....... regards to all those on here who know me

shame most clubs arent like the florina prez and co. their normally last ones out!! croatia boyz were great but not to much after game socializing in div 2!! knight7 we'll be up for same bet this time round i take it?? and you'll be confident after previous 6 rounds results??

The Florina boys are great for that. So are Maso's. Downs are pretty good. Inter were excellent, Fulham also were good, Gardens pretty good. Can't think of who else we have had at home this year

Robin - bet is on for sure, forgot to make a bet with onthepissagain for yesterday but at least I saved a beer! We know it will be a very tough game

As for staying behind our club are sponsored by a Hotel and deal is we go there after away games - so we don't generally stay behind

I agree with all of you.

Agreed some people have commitments and need to leave directly after the game.

But surely not every players from a team has commitments and needs to leave.

For the home team it helps to generate some more revenue.

A good amount of our lads always try to get in for atleast one drink, but we're top blokes.

I think that after the A games the away teams should go in for a drink in the club rooms.

Fulham in the past have been guilty of not doing this but it was decided at the start of the season that if the senior players would go in for at least 1 drink after every away game then other A players would follow which has happened this year and will happen in the future from now on.

Doesn't take much to go in for 1 drink - win, lose or draw.

sorry mate if it got out of hand for you..... perhaps your opening statement shouldnt have inferred why 'you' wouldnt go in for a drink then it might not have taken the path it has...... i believe you'll notice that the responses on this topic are more for the stay rather than go and regardless of your commitments, sponsors etc 1 drink and 10 minutes is not going to interupt anyone routine...... cheers and good luck

I don't know. Once I stayed behind for a drink. One became two and so on. Eventually I couldn't remember getting home and I woke up with a very sore bottom. :?

Now I know this will tempt a lot of the users of this forum to start hanging about for drinks after matches but you will probably have to be as good looking as me.

Anyone for a beer?

i've found that teams that stay back for a drink are teams that you have good relationships with and teams that you hold in great regard/great respect for. I enjoy a beer after games, make an effort to at least stay for one, if the hospitality is good with the opposing side, 1 can turn into 3-4. Plympton were awesome for their hospitality, Southern Knights and the Beach boys all good. Pontian were always very good (could only have soft drink that day, bucks show night before, The Palace has all my money!!) Teams should make an effot win, lose or draw cos most of these sides you play each and every year, what happens on field stays on field, off field joke laugh and look back at the game

I agree with YOU Pecker. You dont have to be invited into a club to be social ... it should just happen.

If a club states they will return the offer however and dont then that's just rude ... 'Jimmee'
