OLYMPIC

Post by shorty »

i really like olympic i think they have grown to be a club that the whole league loves... a bit like what noarlunga used to be...

i dunno if im the only one who thinks this.. but i think we need a few different topics on here; not topics that just talk about how good people think they are, or how good they want everyone to think they are!!! and if it aint about that its about metro n fulham...

so yeah its not just the prems team its the reserves and basically their whole club! (apart from their under 11's HAHA!) (jks!)

hey 'Public WOMENS Forum' we can talk about everything and anything regarding soca - so moderators do ur job and leave this topic alone!!

we need more clubs like the noarlunga lions of old :D
good times were had! Great attitudes all round. I can honestly say that it is noarlunga lions 1998-2002 that has been a major factor in my football today. And im sure there are a few others who think the same for themselves hehe.
thanx to all the former members of the club! :)

I hope olympic have a wonderful and successful season!

Olympic are a quality club, a lot of people doing a lot of hard work behind the scenes to ensure that they will be successful.

Agreed all round. Olympic is a club that has great battlers and decent people. George is a legend. Needs more people to support him in his role. When he tried to resign a few years ago, he had to quickly come back to keep things moving along.

Also, Olympic needs stability. stability in senior coaches. A few years ago they had a great season and the follwing year everything changed. Good coaches left as did players. It was back to drawing board again. Clubs like Olympic cannot afford to go backwards with regularity. It needs to be forward. Onya George.

What I see as a concern in our game is the lack of women involved at the high level in clubs. The one's we mentioned on here regularly Fulham, Olympic and maybe others are predominantly run by and coached by the blokes. My theory is that the blokes are avid supporters of the game and when their daughters are involved, they too get involved. Hence their involvement in coaching/admin, support, etc. Not many women/mums get involved at the coaching/support/admin levels in the SAWSA leagues.

Am I on the right track here? My opinion only.

I think u are wrong about fulham and women involvement.

there has always been a lot of womens involvement at the club. Not everyone can be a coach haha, but there have always been a few female coaches, managers, trainers, and even stuff like the canteen is run by women. not to mention the mums who support and come out and watch every weekend, even at prems level u see many of the players mums out there.

Im sure it is similar at other clubs. there is always womens involvement, just with different things, and evem probably more behind the scenes.

Yay for mums!

no point in giving a female a coaching role just for the hell of it. We have males coaching us because they are the ones that the club sees fit to lead the team

anytime umm ahh coco!!! (nice name by the way haha)

if there were more ppl around like wendy then so be it but there aint and tbh women are more likely to tell players what they wanna hear, there are some males that do that i agree but yeah..

to have males around the club makes the club a stronger environment and im also likely to find myself a husband that way too (lol)

but yeah i agree with the noarlunga thing neits... amazing club and wish it could go back tobeing the same.. but with olympic coming up thru the ranks it should make the league a lot stronger and FRIENDLIER!!!!

shut up my under 11's rock... BOTH my under 11 teams - gubby is playing as a guest player for my under 11's and neits is playing in my other U/11's team too!!!

Olympic, seem to encourage senior girls/players to become more involved in the club, to sit on committees, coach junior teams etc
Before the season started, I think the u11 x2, u13s, Res were/are coached by senior players from the Res and prem. Also I believe other player's from res and prem have been to U11/U13/U17 training and assist the coaches with the younger girls. Which I think the younger girls really appreciate.

Good thing happening over there at Olympic however, women’s soccer is a finicky thing and from a long term point of view ie 3-5 years, there is a lack of stability around the place at a lot of the clubs. Coaching is the area where stability is required. Good coaches have left the game in frustration and are probably never ever going to return to women’s soccer. Over the last 5 years you can count at least 3-5 blokes who have left.

From an admin point of view, our clubs are at risk in the next couple of years. Stalwarts at Ad City, Metro, Olympic, aren’t going to be there forever. They have served the clubs well over the many many years. Who are their successors?

Volunteers assisting at clubs is also a cause for concern because those who do volunteer are inevitably thrashed AND end up walking (running) away at a rate of knots. This is endemic across all junior sports male and female. We would all like to sit back and watch the game but the nets don't get put up or put down by themselves. The line doesn't get run by itself. The equipment doesn't get packed up by itself. Mums, sisters, girlfriends, etc can all help. This is my opinion based on what I have experienced and observed over the last 7-8 years.

Many hands make light work. Unfortunatley when you have to ask people for help, its like you're asking for a donation!

Must say that that Olympic's Prem team are developing quite nicely with the addition of Katrina Bexis, Amy Zahirski and possibly one more SASI girl to join the club. Saw their total demolition of Campbelltown over the weekend where the score actually flattered Campbelltown. Olympic missed a number of chances despite their most impressive,free-flowing attacking performance and only conceded a very dubious penalty. They also were quite unlucky with some of the offside calls which prevented a couple of one on one opportunities. Well done to the club who are building a bit of depth throughout the club with their Reserves also doing well. Well done Olympic.

Hey Enigma what's with the "poaching" comment? Are u suggesting Olympic's success has been due to 'poaching'? The girls that I named were NOT poached at all. Olympic has merely benefitted from one girl returning from the USA and another due to a change of circumstances regarding SASI scholarships. In any case are u suggesting that the other clubs in the competition are innocent of 'poaching'? We all know the truth here and once again I would like to give credit where it is due. Olympic are doing a good job in improving all aspects of its operation. A new home base and much greater depth in terms of its personnel are but two indicators that the club IS heading in the right direction.

Thanks Barbarian for your support with your message. Interesting that Enigma hasn't replied. I am sure that it is not a racial thing as Olympic certainly reflects our multicultural society with girls from a range of backgrounds.

As I have said before Olympic is heading in the right direction with its player strength ( 9 State team reps in Under 14s, 15s and Under 17s ) and facilities at its new home ground ( Underdale ).

Saw a recent game that Olympic played in (vs Sturt) and I must say that one player (olympic) has no qualms about swinging in the feet and arms and goes in studs up. No names however the sportsmanship is lacking and may result in this player inflicting another nasty injury. I'm sure that they don't teach this style of play in the UEessAy. Apart from this, Olympic look good have an excellent coach and excellent off field support and spirit. something a number of other PL clubs need badly! God knows that the PL needs more good teams to offset the others.
