Banya must be a bit mixed up,The Downs are an ethnic club too.You think you are in the middle of the Old Tart.Great club though.BANYA wrote:BOSNIAN PITBULL ARE YOU BLIND OR STUPID. MY 5 MONTH OLD SON COULD SEE THAT THE DOWNS HAVE THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER BASE IN THE LEAGUE. EVERY TIME WE PLAY SOMEONE WE WOULD OUT NUMBER THEM BY AT LEAST 3 TO 1. ESPECIALLY THE ETHNICS. I THINK THEY ARE A LITTLE INTIMIDATED BY THE SHEAR SIZE OF OUR CROWD LET ALONE OUR QUALITY SIDE.

downs v vale 2004 2nd biggest crowd i've seen
biggest 1993 para hills east away to inter last game of the season(a catch up game,so no others that day)if east won we would win title, if inter won by 2 goals it was theirs, if it was a draw the vale would win the league. was probably more vale spectators there that day(they'd not won a title at that stage)can clearly remember eddie & co running on the field when chumbley equalized for inter with 20m to go, shame tho we got the winner with 10 left. phe 2-1, another title!!

Grove vs Vale used to be massive derby's, unfortunately due to us dropping through the divisions we haven't met for some years. We are however on the up again now and if the Vale get relegated this year we may get a chance to play again next seasonTopgun_10 wrote:Agree with all about the Dows vs Vale..
And can some1 answer this for me please. This is just a personal argument me n my mate had.
Is the rivalry betwwen the grove and vale bigger than the one between the downs an vale??
I'm very happy to have moved to West Ham, because I can play for a better team than Sheffield Wednesday.

dont think you'll be meeting the vale next yr. inter is a good bet though. thier crowd now though consists of the coach and 3 subs if they can get them to hang around after the ressies gameDicanio wrote:Grove vs Vale used to be massive derby's, unfortunately due to us dropping through the divisions we haven't met for some years. rememba that game well only a weeeeee tacker then dave radofrd save a pentaly with his legs to send downs through fantastic niteshaunwright-phillips wrote:one of the biggest i've seen would be downs v modbury jets on a friday night at ramsey park, a semi or 1/4 final game - probably 15-years ago?. jets had a very big following back then. downs won on penalties.
I can remember that game very well. i can also remember standing next to Rooney8 @ that game. What was better than my old man saving that penalty was the toungie Bobby Hogg gave him afterwards to celebrate it. Cannot believe that game was that long ago. Prob would have to be one of the biggest crowds i have seen in amatuers, along with that fantastic win over the vale in quarters two years ago when the mighty downs won on golden goal. Thats def the bigest ive seen or played in.
WHY DO THEY CALL IT OVALTINE? I MEAN ITS ROUND, WHY DONT THEY CALL IT ROUNDTINE.

It was against us and we only bring a moderate crowd compared to you guys. It was Mothers Day also so that would of made a difference.marooned wrote:Jay walking saidCrowd size differs depending on quality of opposition. When did you see us Jay ?For me it would be the Downs but it was a little less than I thought it might of been.
Was good to play in front of a big crowd though
guess your talking to me. you see, this is a forum. it is where people vioce their opinion. thats what a i am doing. so move along getsuckingetstuckin wrote:on ure rags what is your problem with inter remember winger u played there for a couple of seasons.why bag the club if you dont like them anymore as i can see u dont ,keep ure petty opinion to yourself.as my mum allways said to me if u have nothing good to say dont say anything at all!
There was also another games a few years ago when there was the Community D day held at argna park. and the highlight for the day was a feature leauge match between the Downs and Vale i think it was. Lots of people there that day for the other community things that stayed to watch the football as well.
Lots of local dignatries, army tanks smashing cars on the netball courts, the police rock band playing, a band in the club rooms that night, heps of people. The worst thing for the players was that the helicopter joy flight went stright over the pitch, and you could not hear a thing, so it made calling for the ball really difficult.
Cant remember the final score of the games, but a huge crownd all day long for all the games.

The Downs always get a quality crowd! In the cup games more so cos all the other teams who are out want to watch a quality side. That number 16 for The Downs is pretty good. Ne1 know who that is?
