Hoofuckingray. Ange abandons his silly tactics, goes back to playing pragmatic football with a bit of shape and structure and, although Spurs rode their luck a bit, comes away with a valuable three points.
Hopefully he learns from this.

Next thing you will shock people and gradually change your view of other Greek-Aussies.
Anyway, ‘twas good watching Arsenal put FIVE(!) past Citeh this morn.

I have consistently said that I like his attacking instincts, but that we're too easy to score against. However, it does prove one thing, Pep is as more a chequebook manager than a master coach, but we also knew that already despite the media fawning over him.

Honestly, telling Ben Davies, who has problems kicking a ball with his good leg, to play out from the back is like asking a five year old to treat gelignite carefully, it's going to blow up in your face.

Could you please answer this one as I am genuinely intrigued?- Postecoglou OR Southgate and reason(s) why?

Reading Blanchflower's statement, he uttered those immortal words when we had comfortably the best team in the league (top scorers and second best defence), but we don't have that now.thebeautifulgame wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 3:56 pm"The game is about glory, doing things in style and with a flourish, going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 7:37 am Hoofuckingray. I hate Southgate's anti football, but it's unfair to compare them because he had the pick of English players at his disposal, he just had no idea how to blend them and was completely risk averse.
I like Ange's attacking, risk taking instincts, it makes for attractive football when it works, but he's so fucking naive to think that with average PL players he can play like Pep's Barcelona, you have to tailor your tactics to the cattle you have and manage your risks depending on the opposition you're playing. Playing out from the back every single time makes you predictable, even if you're good at it, which we're not.
In Scotland, managing the best team in the league, without any serious opposition, he looks like a genius, but he just doesn't seem to understand that what works with the sweaties, won't work down South.

So, on balance, neither are my idea of decent managers, but I'd take Ange over Southgate, purely because, when we lose I'm at least awake to see it.

Re: EPL 24/25
Acceptable answer NOC- it is your opinion and though the question was poking a bit of fun, there was a serious side to it as well (I think you acknowledged that). For what it is worth- I think Ange is a decent coach in general but does lack defensive awareness- players, tactics or both? He has publicly stated he will refuse to change his ways, hence your comments regarding his stubbornness. I think football should be an attacking and exciting sport to watch but would rather see a highly competitive 3-3 draw rather than a blow out 6-0 score-line as happens North of the border (and sometimes South of the border as well).Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 4:34 pmReading Blanchflower's statement, he uttered those immortal words when we had comfortably the best team in the league (top scorers and second best defence), but we don't have that now.thebeautifulgame wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 3:56 pm"The game is about glory, doing things in style and with a flourish, going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 7:37 am Hoofuckingray. No intention to knock Spurs but they just seem to be lacking direction and have been for a while. They are a sleeping giant and it makes it all the worse when Arsenal look the more accomplished side of the two.
The EPL is also an unforgiving and competitive league, but this is what makes it so special. It doesn't suffer fools gladly.

When the Toffees went 1-0 up I thought here goes, they’re gonna do Arsenal a small favour.
Still, a brilliant equaliser for 2-2 by Everton in the last match ever at the old Goodison.
Apparently their new 54,000 Stadium is to be called Bramely-Moore Dock.

Havertz injured on training camp, out for the season. With Saka, Martinelli, Jesus out injured, we now have no recognised striker in the squad.. & they thought we didn't need to sign a striker in the window

Bring in Merino, Calafiori or Jorgino to partner Partey & Odegaard in midfield and push powerful Rice up a bit as a false 9.
Or Trossard could be the tricky false 9 with Sterling & Nwaneri as the wide attackers.

Re: EPL 24/25
Leicester 0, Arsenal 2. The 17-year kid Nwaneri did well, but sadly Sterling is past it.
Who needs a centre-forward when a midfielder like Merino can pop up for 2 goals.
Arsenal now hoping Villa on 20 Feb and Citeh on 24 Feb can do a number on ruffled Liverpool.
ps, dunno why Cyril, Mega, Owl and others are mocking about false 9s. I can name any number of countries and clubs who have had success playing with a false 9. eg Hungary, Uruguay, Soviet Union, Netherlands and Spain. Also at clubs like Ajax, Barcelona, Manchester City and others. And sure, you’ve gotta have the cattle to play that style.

Lucky Liverpoo!
As I've said, we have had 2 send off's not seen again this season. Konata kicks the ball away after the whistle blown, nothing given! Going down to 10men before half-time would have changed the game this morning
& then he is subbed at half-time cause he was lucky to remain on the pitch

After Liverpool dropped 4 points with two draws, I thought Arsenal would seize the chance to close the gap. Alas 0-1 against the Hammers overnight.
And has Greek-Aussie Ang saved his skin with a 4-1 win? Sure it was only at the lowly Tractor Boys, but a win is a win.

Was never going to be sacked before the end of the season anyway, no danger of relegation, no danger of qualifying for anything, mid table mediocrity assured.Con M wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 9:59 am After Liverpool dropped 4 points with two draws, I thought Arsenal would seize the chance to close the gap. Despite the welcome points, the scoreline flattered Spurs, Ipswich had as many shots on target, hit the post and had one cleared off the line. Still got the same lack of shape and structure when pressing.
