Arrogance.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 8:13 amStubborn as a mule. I like his basic premise of being a pressing, attacking team, it's much more watchable than two banks of four and the occasional foray forwards, but I don't know if he's a brilliant coach and the players are dumb, or if he's dumb and out of his depth. He is missing both centre halves and the keeper which makes it worse, but they lack shape and structure.
The whole idea of pressing is to win the ball high, or to force an aimless pump where you can win the ball back. Spurs' players are all over the place, opposition forwards are left totally unmarked and an aimless pump often turns into a killer pass. Liverpool's third goal, Dragusin was a full 10 yards away from Szoboslai, disgraceful defending. Is it the player's fault or the coach's? Not sure, but it happens too often for it to always be the players.
I think he'll last the season, but unless they work on the defensive structure, he's goneski.
He tried this with Australian NT and it was ridiculous.
I thought that with access to a squad 24/7, he could pull it off, even with a team that may not be quite technically capable, the repetition over time could get them over the line and get consistency and success.
Think it's a combination of out of his depth in as much as an unwillingness to accept you sometimes need to be flexible with your tactics, but that's his arrogance coming through. Second tier coaching, ie Scottish PL, is probably where his lane is.
As soon as you're born you start dying.

Re: EPL 24/25
Should have sent Saliba off for a headbutt you mean?
Or were you referring to Joelinton's clear handball?

On the Arsenal - One of PGMOL's worst referees decided to step up to the plate and make it totally about himself this morning. A ball pinged up in the box, Saliba and Pedro went for it, heads clashed, and the referee thought briefly about whether he wanted to ruin a Premier League title race... and he decided that the answer was clearly yes.
I have never seen a penalty given for an accidental clash of heads, certainly not from that close a distance. It was so clearly an absurd decision because the Brighton players weren't even protesting. How many times have you seen corners/free kicks swung in the box & players clash heads..??

I've said this for ages, that they no longer understand what is actually a foul and what is just incidental contact playing a contact sport. When the ball is in dispute and two players arrive at the same time to challenge for it, the bar for whether a foul has occurred or not should be much higher.haywood djablowme wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 5:20 pm100% handball CyrilNice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 1:22 pmShould have sent Saliba off for a headbutt you mean?

Watching the AU game, clash of heads in the 18 yard box.. queue Simon Hill.. 1 or 2 Arsenal fans around the country are saying we had a penalty called against us for that on the weekend well played SimonNice One Cyril wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 8:22 amI've said this for ages, that they no longer understand what is actually a foul and what is just incidental contact playing a contact sport. I agree with everything you say Cyril, what is concerning to me, we will sit there for 3-5 minutes to watch VAR review an offside, draw some lines & make a decision.. so why do they not take that time on all major decisions?? There is clear camera vision of Saliba making contact with the ball prior to clashing heads.. did VAR see that vision, did they take the time to review all camera vision available to them?? If not, why not?? These decision are costing clubs valuable points at both ends of the tables. The handball could cost Ange his job, the 3 decisions against us this year - none of them seen applied again, could cost us the league... but these plonkers keep rolling up week after week with no consequences to their decisions

TBF you were a country mile better than us all over the pitch and if you had a half decent striker, you'd have scored about 5.

Re: EPL 24/25
Havertz has scored 7 goals and gone close on many other occasions. He wins it in the air and pops up from midfield into various forward positions. But yeah, I think without Jesus now, Arteta will buy. Arsenal still potentially 7 points behind.haywood djablowme wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:01 pmI only said the other day, how long can Arteta hide behind us not having a proper striker.. against sh!t defences we get away with itNice One Cyril wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 12:54 pmTBF you were a country mile better than us all over the pitch and if you had a half decent striker, you'd have scored about 5.
ps, anyone know when the postponed derby Everton v Liverpool will be played?

If there was a Golden Boot for near misses, Havertz would be a shoe in, he couldn't score on the ReeperbahnCon M wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 2:43 amHavertz has scored 7 goals and gone close on many other occasions. Bad luck his Arsenal blew a 2-goal lead with Trossard almost snatching a 3-2 win at the death.

Re: EPL 24/25
The injuries are merely masking his incompetence and hopeless coaching. Even when we had a full first team out and were winning games, we were giving up an unacceptable number of scoring chances to the opposition and it was more down to luck and some bad finishing that we managed to scrape home in a few games.
He's a very limited coach and had he coached anybody else in Scotland other than Celtic, Rangers or Aberdeen, he'd have got them relegated. He might do it to Spurs
Pig headed Greek Australian, lots of 'em around heh? The only good thing about his formations is that he doesn't believe in a false 9

Yes he’s stubborn. I queried his experimentation during World Cup Qualifiers when he should have concentrated on qualifying first, then experimented in pre-World Cup Tournament friendly games.
Australia went within a shaved post shot by the opposition in the 90th minute of not qualifying that time.
In the recent derby with Arsenal he insisted on playing out short from goal-kicks whereas Raya went long to Havertz.
But there were some achievements at South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Japan, winning the Asian Nations Cup in 2015 and going close to getting Spurs to qualify for the Champions League in 2024.
Sadly I now think he may have lost the dressing room, let alone Levy.
