More so offside. If you are in an offside position when the ball is played forward, then you're offside. None of this "not involved" BS
Not involved in the attack is exactly that, not involved. It’s here to stay. They’re trying to mitigate the effect of offside when a straying forward is not involved in the build-up play...

The direction of travel of the ball is irrelevant to offside Maestro.

If you're the most forward player in your team on pitch with ball and you play it backwards, everyone is onside

True, but that's not the scenario you outlined. You said, "If you are in an offside position when the ball is played forward", meaning you are offside and therefore don't have the ball, so someone else plays it. It can go backwards and you're still offside.

I see what you are saying, then yes, let the ball direction be irrelevant

Disrespectful from Liverpoo fans this morning, credit for the result, however singing that to arguably the greatest football manager doesn't sit well

Ange kissed on the proverbial getting Southampton after a few weeks of turmoil. Still 5:0 is a good result.

Next matches may be a return back to earth matches against MU in the league cup and Liverpool in EPL..

3-6 at home must hurt.

Aussie Ange has gotta watch his back.

ps, a commentator raised an interesting question: has anyone kept stats on how many goals are scored from playing out short goal-kicks from the back, and how many goals are conceded from blunders after playing out short?

I'm old school but cannot understand why amateur players and semi pros try to play out from the back when even the top pros can't get it right all the time. Less passes =less mistakes for amateurs. Go long, away from your goal and concentrate on winning the first or second ball. Leave pretty football to the pros.

I don't like it. You always feel a mistake will happen. The pressure is always on the GK because he tends to get the ball passed back and some GK's think they are good outfield players and can outplay any oncoming attackers.

Stubborn as a mule. I like his basic premise of being a pressing, attacking team, it's much more watchable than two banks of four and the occasional foray forwards, but I don't know if he's a brilliant coach and the players are dumb, or if he's dumb and out of his depth. He is missing both centre halves and the keeper which makes it worse, but they lack shape and structure.

The whole idea of pressing is to win the ball high, or to force an aimless pump where you can win the ball back. Spurs' players are all over the place, opposition forwards are left totally unmarked and an aimless pump often turns into a killer pass. Liverpool's third goal, Dragusin was a full 10 yards away from Szoboslai, disgraceful defending. Is it the player's fault or the coach's? Not sure, but it happens too often for it to always be the players.

I think he'll last the season, but unless they work on the defensive structure, he's goneski.

Liverpool win and Wolves out of the relegation zone. I'll leave it to Haywood to comment on the yids.
