Disgraceful Murdoch rags. The CrowTiser has them 9 pages back in the sports pages, with the Australia B v. Pakistan crickette T20 game back only 4 pages.

The OZ broadsheet has 3 lousy paras previewing the game, while Marco Monteverde (soccer writer) concentrates on the T20 game.

Even the women's Footy had more coverage. Basketball had a full page.

IT’S THE CAM-DO

Socceroos defender Cameron Burgess says the Aussies are “back in a positionto take control” of their World Cup qualifying fate in two key matches thisweek.Burgess joined the Socceroos camp in Melbourne ahead of Thursday night’sclash against Saudi Arabia after helping his club Ipswich Town to amonumental Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The 29-year-old defender declared himself ready to perform if selected inthe AAMI Park qualifier after holding down a post in coach Tony Popovic’snew back-three system in the 1-1 draw to Japan last month. The result leftAustralia on equal points with its two opponents in this window, SaudiArabia and Bahrain, but ahead on goal difference in second place behindJapan.Finishing second in the group would secure automatic World Cupqualification, but a third or fourth-placed finish would put Australia throughanother round of qualifying in a three-nation group potentially containingdifficult opponents in Qatar or Iraq.“We’re in the position we’re in through our performances … we’ve putourselves back in a position to take control,” Burgess said. “That’s what wewant to do. We want to be one of the best teams in this competition. It’s inour hands to do that, and we have to show that we can be that team.”He said the Socceroos would be wary of a Saudi outfit likely to press and playmore aggressively under returning coach Herve Renard, who led them to anupset 2-1 win over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup. “There could be somedifferent things thrown at us,” he said. “They’ve had that manager before …they’ll be familiar with each other, so there’s things to look at, and moreimportantly, what we can do to hurt them.”Burgess, 29, has played for newly promoted Ipswich Town since 2021, but hadto wait until last month to make his Premier League debut against Everton.11/14/24, 12:02 PM The

The 194cm Scottish-born defender remained in the line-up as the TractorBoys rose out of the EPL relegation zone with their first win of the season onSunday – a 2-1 away win over Aussie Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.“It’s up there,” Burgess said.“These are the little things you dream of when you’re a kid, to want to play inthe Premier League, and then to win your first game in it. It’s pretty specialand maybe a moment for reflection at some point down the line.”

If you can't win your home games you don't really deserve to qualify.

Lucky not to lose. I lost it a bit with that Saudi goal. I love VAR. ;-)

Yeah, nah - a thoroughly disappointing performance!

Didn’t even know Irvine was on the pitch until the 45th minute when he botched a shot.

Still second in this Group with Bahrain 🇧🇭 losing to China.

Hopefully Straya 🇦🇺 can win in Bahrain on Wednesday 20 November (4.45am, not on free-to-air TV) and Indonesia 🇮🇩 in Jakarta can do a number over the Saudis.

I heard the commentators saying SA had goalkeeping issues.
I don't actually recall too many times we tested the keeper. We missed a couple of sitters though and messed up some clear chances.

Saudi's goalkeeper was very dodgy in the 1st half, but we didn't test him at all.
13 shots and only 2 on target for the game.

How bad are Australia's forwards that can't take a decent shot at goal?
Have to rely on the likes of Goodwin to score when he comes back.

That dumb card Goodwin got last match. :(

A win would have put us in a better position. We play the Saudi's over there in the last match.

Bahrain and China away as well. Its a massively even group other than Japan.

Nah, you can do it Eagleman! Set that alarm.

Be like Uncle Con. Haven’t missed a Socceroos match on TV or in the stadium since 1969.

Fair go. He couldn't stop those 2 goals. Maybe should be off his line so far but that's where most GK stand.
