Referee

Should you have to have a referee to go through a coaching course just to referee reserve games?

Some clubs can't even find someone willing to be referee... We are having to organise women's C's and B's refs on a game to game basis at the moment.

No, id say thats being fickle.

Id expect the reserve ref from most clubs, to be someone who has played the game and has a reasonable understanding of the rules. If you want complain about the standard of reserve refereeing, become a better player. Obviously, the higher the standard, the better the referees are.

And the real shocking refs are the ones who will cheat and give clear favourtism to the home side, no ref course is going to change that!

i heard that the saasl have called a crisis meeting about the declining numbers of refs and what are the proposed solutions. i suggest they subsidise some of the bill and increase wages. The clubs should never have to pay for refs anyway as they are employees of the saasl

The refs aren't employees of the league. For starters the league doesn't employee anybody and the referees have their own association. Anyone qualified can be selected to referee games in the SAASL, even federation refs.

How about finding some sort of honesty course for the refs instead.

One of the worst things about arbitration is the linesmen (I'll never use the assisstant ref phrase).

We had a guy at the weekend have to do the walk of shame after being sacked from his duty on Sunday during the A's game. Some decisions were pretty shocking and eventually he just put his flag up for everything.

Good on the ref for addressing this, who incidently had a good game. One of the better ref's I've seen.

It dosen't help the ref's when the linesman are making their life even harder.

This needs sorting just as much as some of the ref's.
