Yes, Celtic started slowly and Motherwell unlucky not to lead before Celtic hit the front. Luke McCowan looks like he is going to be a player for Celtic, always satisfying when a home grown player makes an impact.

There was a very interesting decision early on when Daizen Maeda's strike was correctly ruled out for unintentional hand ball.

This in itself was fine, but he was tripped when he was clean through on goal and this caused him to handle the ball.

The trip occurred first, so Celtic should have been awarded a penalty. In the end it didn't matter but it was a crazy call.

A little bit off topic but too much effort to open a new thread which will hardly be noticed- Celtic to overcome Aberdeen by 3 goals to 1 in a competitive game. My reasoning is Celtic will be the fresher of the two sides following the midweek games as they rested a few players v Dundee. Aberdeen were pushed hard by Rangers and it would be a monumental effort to overcome Celtic at Hampden in a League Cup game. The last time they achieved this was 32 years ago in the final when a young Eoin Jess scored the only goal of the game.

We certainly have and hopefully 'normal service' resumes. Not many will give Rangers much of a chance, the die-hard blue noses included. That said, it's a final and anything can happen. Rodgers will be hopeful of extending his excellent record against Celtic's biggest foes.- Played 18, W 14, D 3, L 1 with goals for 40 and goals against 12.

With all due respect eagleboy, I wouldn't consider it (game v Rangers) 'season defining', as Celtic could afford to lose 10-0 and it wouldn't make any difference to their season. However, it could be seen as 'season defining' for Clement if his team fail to beat Celtic again.

Rangers have an excellent record of beating Celtic when the result doesn't matter!

Expect Rangers to throw everything at Celtic to try and appease there fans if nothing else. In the cold light of day, a Rangers' win will only prolong their suffering and prolong Clement's stay.
If the real Celtic turn up, they could put the final nail in his coffin. In Glasgow, second is last and the supporters of either side will only tolerate it for so long. To be perfectly honest, Clement was always going to find it extremely difficult as Celtic
are financially strong and professionally run- polar opposites to what Rangers are at this moment in time.

What makes it more unacceptable to the Bears is that Celtic have now overtaken them in major trophies won- that wouldn't have seemed possible just a few years ago.

So either way- it doesn't matter if the game is won, lost or drawn as the writing is on the wall. Only winning the Scottish Cup could potentially save Clement, though the curtain could fall very soon. Interesting to note- Clement signed an extended contract to 2028. This means he could hang around if Rangers can't afford to sack him, or he resigns.

On present form and the current resentment shown by their supporters in general, I will find it astonishing if he sees out next year- never mind 2028.

A Celtic win would put them 177 points up.
Celtic would have to lose six games and Rangers would have to go the rest of the season and win their 19 remaining games.

A Celtic win would also put Clement's job in high jeopardy.
