Re: 23 players for Matildas World Cup
two or three names lucky to be there, a bit past their use by date, with all the good young talent we have here.
My concern is not the football they play, I am worried it is going to be turned into a political stage.
It is a worry when the national coach, and the captain, are more worried about what flag to fly than they are about just playing good football. Last time they did that it backfired on them.
Let's hope it is all just about football and nothing else, and they will be a good chance to reach the knockout stage.

Matildas playing France tonight 14 July on France’s national day (Bastille Day).
Docklands Stadium Melbourne sold out for this warm-up match. The game will be telecast live on free-to-air digital Ch10 Bold at 7pm Adelaide time.
Australia’s first World Cup game is on Thursday 20July (an 80,000 sellout in Sydney).

Re: 23 players for Matildas World Cup
Very surprised by Alanna Kennedy's commanding performance (vs France) who I had previously maybe prematurely written off as too old & too slow. I'm hoping Alanna stays fit throughout the WC & continues to perform as she did the other night.
Meanwhile just for the record my thoughts on 3 other players who certainly would not be in our current 23 WC squad.
Kyah Simon, very hard to justify her place in the squad who I have already previously written off as too old/too slow & that was before her long absence from the game so I can't see the positive she will bring on the pitch (maybe she at least brings mentoring value off the pitch to the younger members in the squad).
Aivi Luik again too old & too slow with no physical presence & for the life of me can't understand what Gustavsson from the very start has seen in her with much better options to be found even in our local W-League.
Courtney Nevin for me is just an okay W-League player with no real special qualities to stand her out as a Matilda.
In fact what I do see is a bit of a 'loose cannon' at times with over physical play because she lacks technical ability & doesn't always strike me as the 'smartest player' on the pitch.
I believe our best 11 on the pitch are good enough to get us out of our group stage but I'm not convinced deep into finals.

Re: 23 players for Matildas World Cup
Thers been almost Zero publicity for any of teams playing in Adelaide, or anywhere else either.
Channel 7 should be banned from hosting any other Football Tournaments as they only want to show the "big" games that will get a huge audience and keep the Gayfl happy.
Why couldn't they show some of the other matches for the benefit of supporters who are unable to travel to watch their team? Bunch of Barstewards!!!!!

Only watched second half. Ireland was all over them. Must say I expected better standard all round, but often early games in tournaments don't live up to expectations.

Football Australia has lost a golden opportunity not televising more matches in Australia. Was C7 the only f/A channel that bid on the games? Is SBS totally out of Football.

Re: 23 players for Matildas World Cup
self inflicted, perhaps?
Sam was substitued against France in teh last friendly and was on the bench wih an ice pack on her leg.
She was seen playing up the injury for the camera when panned in on her...
I guess you shouldnt tempt fate!

Re: 23 players for Matildas World Cup
Not at all. Today's was dull IMO (I did only see 40% or so though) , the first one was good, and I think Tuesday will be too.
I do thik the 'show' FIFA have put on is pretty good - it may not be what is the norm or expected by many fans but it's impressive and achieves what they want.

Great result for the girls today. Didn't have to play Sam Kerr as well.
