Postecoglou to Tottenham
If the rumour mill is true Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will manage Celtic for the last time this weekend in the Scottish Cup Final v Inverness Caley Thistle, a game which should secure the treble and underline his dominance in Scottish football- winning no less than five out of six competitions competed for domestically during his two year tenure.
Tottenham are set to test Celtic's resolve as early as next week so it will be interesting to see the outcome. I believe that the interest is genuine but I wouldn't say it is a foregone conclusion as of yet (as opposed to some of the reports in the media outlets).
I am not saying I have more knowledge than the media outlets but they do survive by writing up some insane drivel though this time around I think the headline carries some merit.
My train of thought is this- does Ange suit Tottenham and does Tottenham suit Ange? There are huge risks on either perspective but to me Ange is taking the bigger risk if he accepts the Tottenham job. Personal failure always has a higher burden as it could severely ruin his chances of managing one of the two top clubs in the EPL- Liverpool and Man. City.
I truly believe that this is his ultimate goal- he is determined to get to the very top as a manager.
If he fails Tottenham lose out for another season or two but pay him out and seek another manager- not much difference there to what has been going on over the last decade and a half.
Ange could decide to stay at Celtic for another season or two to see if he can make inroads in the CL- a competition they have almost next to zero chance of winning but it may make him want to stay all the same. This way he could also bide his time at Celtic and wait for Klopp to depart Liverpool and the stars could align.
One thing is certain- Ange doesn't need the money as he is more than financially secure. The motivation is in being the best he can be and to meet his challenges head on. He is a professional who demands the highest standards and he craves success.
Whatever Ange decides to do, he will do it in the correct manner. I wish him every success in the future, regardless if he stays or goes.

Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
do you really think the only reason there are no Aussies in the Premier league is because of prejudice?
any of the current crop of Aussies would be a coach killer in that league
look what happened to the last one...the fake Aussie who got his club relegated

Good on him. I hope he does well. Looks like Ange will take a big chunk of his coaching team with him to Spurs.haywood djablowme wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 9:32 pm Spurs finally get a new manager! He was their 7th choice, but hey someone had to get the job
I recall Adelaide United passed on him and went for Viddie.
Who remembers this with that wank Craig Foster.

if he goes to spurs what would be the pass mark ? and by that i mean what would they need to achieve for him not to get sacked
I may not be perfect but I'm still the closest I have ever come across

Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
European football minimum. He will need some good recruiting if Kane goes. The Spurs owner doesn't like to spend big on players. Maybe why Conti failed.Just Dave now wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 11:39 am if he goes to spurs what would be the pass mark ? and by that i mean what would they need to achieve for him not to get sacked

Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
Well he doesn't have to worry about European football so that's a big help, but against that he might not have Kane*, so that's not. As a lifelong fan, I would hope to see a top 6 finish but playing more attacking, attractive football. You hate to admit it, but the gypsies from South London actually play nice football, fortunately they're a bit spineless and have a choking tendency.Just Dave now wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 11:39 am if he goes to spurs what would be the pass mark ? and by that i mean what would they need to achieve for him not to get sacked
I'd love Spurs to win every game, but I'd rather lose 4-3 and be entertained than draw 0-0 and be bored shitless. Whether Levy, who is the only one who counts, thinks the same is another matter.
*Losing Kane might not be the total disaster everyone thinks. He's obviously a world class striker but him being in the middle forces Son and Richarlison out wide and I don't think you see the best of them because of it.

Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
Do you think an aussie will ever manage an English premier league side. I was going to suggest that Muscat is probably the one with the best chance of doing it but he isn't aussie.

Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
Well said- too many want successful people to fall flat on their faces.
I'm Celtic through and through and I am disappointed that Ange has decided to leave us for Tottenham but don't begrudge him for that, he is entitled to go where any job opportunity exists. Thought that the lure of CL football would perhaps keep him at Celtic for next season but obviously not enough for him to stay.
I do feel he has left prematurely as most of his signings are relatively new and hopefully yet to peak in a Celtic shirt, be interesting to see how they cope with a new manager.
Brendan Rodgers would be a good fit football wise but for me I wouldn't appoint him as he left us mid season- a poor decision which will never be forgiven by the majority of Celtic supporters. Some interesting names being touted- Jesse Marsch, Graham Potter, Enzo Maresca etc.
Forget about some of the other names mentioned such as Scott Brown, Neil Lennon, Steven Gerrard (LOL) and Kevin Muscat (an even bigger LOL).
With Ange leaving Celtic many are saying that Michael Beale 'is a lucky man'.
Re: Postecoglou to Tottenham
Ange being living here since 5th year & playing most of his game here should qualify him as an Australian footballer ,ok maybe under the category of ethnic Greek Aussie ,but still Aussie!

Muscat played for Australia.
Ange played for South Melbourne in the NSL, captained and coached them.
Your opinion is worth not much.

Postecoglou is a terrible national team manager.
As a club manager he is excellent as he can bring in the players he needs.
He will do well at Tottenham if he can manage the next level of player and club ego
