Re: FA Cup 2022/23
They did well. Newcastle were impressive the other night at Arsenal, so Wednesday done good to beat the Magpies.
Now Newcastle will say they can concentrate on the EPL chase.
ps, what a howler by the Liverpool ‘keeper! And imagine the confusion for some fans when Salah was offside in the first movement leading to his goal, but not offside in the second movement.

Re: FA Cup 2022/23
Was the defender making a deliberate attempt to play the ball forward and made a hash of it, or was he trying to head the ball back to his keeper? Now you and I both think that it was the former, but can we be 100% sure of his intent when he jumped? For that reason alone I don't mind those being given as onside, whereas a true deflection we can all see and those would be offside.Get In The Car wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 12:09 pm Like the Celtic one the other day, that should be offside.
More of a worry is that VAR didn't give the Wolves winner, I'm assuming that it was the corner taker given off when it was headed out to him, but he looked suspiciously on from the angle I've seen. It would be instructive to hear the linesman's thoughts, but we know that won't happen.

It was offside before it got to the defender.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 1:34 pmWas the defender making a deliberate attempt to play the ball forward and made a hash of it, or was he trying to head the ball back to his keeper?Get In The Car wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 12:09 pm Like the Celtic one the other day, that should be offside.

Being offside is not an offence in itself, but I agree that you shouldn't be able to benefit by being offside, however that isn't the modern interpretation.Get In The Car wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 2:59 pmIt was offside before it got to the defender.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 1:34 pmWas the defender making a deliberate attempt to play the ball forward and made a hash of it, or was he trying to head the ball back to his keeper?Get In The Car wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 12:09 pm Like the Celtic one the other day, that should be offside.

I just hope Arsenal go for it. No sense in thinking whatever happens happens - that if they go out they can concentrate on the big one, the EPL title.ozzie owl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 9:24 am 4th Round Draw with the big one Man City v Arsenal.

Our B team did go for it but couldn't get the desired result in the end. Couple of great saves from their keeper got Citeh the result

Re: FA Cup 2022/23
Lineup was a bit more than a B team, but IMO Arteta should have played the full-strength side - after all there’s no tomorrow in a knockout Cup. Getting all the way to Wembley for the FA Cup Final crowns the season off nicely with a finale like that.haywood djablowme wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 4:47 pmOur B team did go for it but couldn't get the desired result in the end. You’re right about Tomyasu’s thunderbolt and Trossard’s shot being saved. I thought they were going in.
I liked the idea of playing Holding on the beast Haaland to outmuscle him and it worked, although Arteta did right to replace Holding after the booking.
Saka, not being a defender, did poorly when Ake scored and again rightfully got dragged.
Yes, now they will concentrate on the EPL title but there will be ‘dead’ weekends when further cup rounds are held and there could be a lack of continuity. And fringe players will have nothing to do for months unless there are injuries to the usual starting eleven.

Re: FA Cup 2022/23
I did hear the other night that Arsenal have seven players who have played every PL game. They must be due some injuries and suspensions.

When Leicester won it Cyril, they had 10 players who started/played in +33 games for the season.. if they remain fit, you play them!Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 3:46 pm

Liverpool are just thugs, kicked anything that moved. Some disgraceful tackles against a proper football team. Salah & Nunez are funny though, not cheap but funny at least

Can't think of anyone in the modern game who is a thug. Breathe on someone now and it's a red card. Game's gone ridiculously SOFT.

The PGMOL has today admitted that Fabhino’s tackle on Ferguson would have been referred by VAR for a red card if he had not been wearing a Liverpool top. Or words to that effect

Re: FA Cup 2022/23
I was watching a doco about George Best last night, some of the stuff that was dished out to him was disgraceful. Thankfully he was incredibly nimble and most of it missed or just clipped him, but it would have been 5 a side with modern refs.thebeautifulgame wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 11:19 pmDepends if the wild challenge/tackle is by a defender or an attacker!God is an Englishman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 11:41 am

If I'd said the opposite of what I said then you'd have made an amusing comment.

Good time for Adelaide. Back to ye olde days when Strayans could hold F.A. Cup night parties.
