Re: AFL 2022
Big viewing choice for some forumites on Thursday 24th March:
Two suburbs of Melbourne (Footscray and Carlton playing each other @ Marvellous Stadium);
or
Straya versus Japan in a World Cup qualifier @ Stadium Australia Syd.er...ney.

Re: AFL 2022
And Geelong would have most likely be entitled to get the match replayed. How this can be encouraged in modern times is quite surprising.

On a lighter note I'm sure Croydon would have loved 20,000 paid spectators invading their pitch at a home game.

Re: AFL 2022
They would have spilled onto Camden Footy Oval before that could happen , but for perspective, even if ONE fan ran on to the pitch during the game, we wouldn't hear the end of it.eagleboy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 12:41 pmOn a lighter note I'm sure Croydon would have loved 20,000 paid spectators invading their pitch at a home game.

Re: AFL 2022
20000 @ $10 a head. That would be worth the bad publicity. The 1 white coat from each team may have a bit trouble getting them off the ground.Bomber wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 12:50 pmThey would have spilled onto Camden Footy Oval before that could happen , but for perspective, even if ONE fan ran on to the pitch during the game, we wouldn't hear the end of it.eagleboy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 12:41 pmOn a lighter note I'm sure Croydon would have loved 20,000 paid spectators invading their pitch at a home game.

Normally I wouldn't get too excited about beating the bottom side - but last night just felt really good!

Re: AFL 2022
Naturally and would be - Agenda 1, item 1
Then split into two divs with promotion/relegation
Two field umpires only, no microphones
No more score reviews
Minimum kick 20m (from 15m) to have a mark
Less interchange (8 max per quarter each team)
Ditch this stand still on mark stuff
50m penalties for serious infringements only, otherwise 25m (like SANFL)
Ditch the draft - players to go to club of their choice from outset
Women's league to be self-funded
That's enough for week one, will save other stuff for week two (if I still have kept the job)

Re: AFL 2022
Then split into two divs with promotion/relegation.....regardless of merits, wont happen! TV broadcaster will want pies V bomber, pies V blues etc etc 2X a year
Two field umpires only, no microphones......dont agree...game is too fast for 2 umpires now
No more score reviews......compromise, like cricket each team get 2 reviews per game
Minimum kick 20m (from 15m) to have a mark.....why?
Less interchange (8 max per quarter each team).....once again why?
Ditch this stand still on mark stuff....agree fully
50m penalties for serious infringements only, otherwise 25m (like SANFL)...agree fully
Ditch the draft - players to go to club of their choice from outset.....not sure about this one....the socialist in me likes the idea that premierships are shared and that dynasties dont usually last for more than 4 years and the capitalist in me suggests let the strongest thrive and the weakest disappear
Women's league to be self-funded......TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!

Too many short kicks (much less than 15m) already are given. To make this a bit easier to judge, have pitch markings where they mow grass in a chequered fashion (20 m chunks)
Score reviews are a joke in most cases anyway (especially the touched calls) - should the odd error occur, so be it - we are all human
You don't think the frequent interchanges disrupt the flow occasionally? Player scores, off he goes. Or, ball/play is near interchange bench, moves are made creating confusing
Two umps are plenty BUT give more power to boundary umps and goal umps to assist those in the middle - will get more consistency in decisions.

Re: AFL 2022
I never have been a fan of rewarding crap teams. The two division proposal would provide alternative incentive, ie NOT to finish lower on the ladder. If you want to even things up a bit, increase the salary cap in the second tier - that would make things interesting.
