I've never been to Vietnam but I'm assuming the grass is similar to what I've seen elsewhere in SE Asia. They tend to have a kikuyu type grass. Very spongey and thick. The humidity is very high as well. Hard to breathe on hot days when temp is higher than normal.

Of course, but one team may play on such surfaces much more often, or to nullify a more ground-passing style opponent

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
Roos pair underdone
But Arnie backing Mooy, Ryan
SOCCEROOS coach Graham Arnold has backed key pair Mat Ryan and Aaron Mooy
to shine for Australia in Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Oman in Doha, despite
their lack of recent club football.
The “home” clash against Oman – which had been scheduled for Sydney before
travel restrictions forced it to be moved abroad – will be followed by another Group
B qualifier next Tuesday against Japan in Saitama.
Goalkeeper Ryan and playmaker Mooy loom as key figures over the next two games,
despite being starved of football.
Ryan’s move from the English Premier League to Spanish club Real Sociedad hasn’t
led to regular football, with the former Central Coast Mariners keeper having started
in just one La Liga match.
“He’s not playing at this moment but he played in La Liga last week and he’s in great
form, so we’re very strong in that department,” Arnold told Socceroos Insider, before
praising the other glovemen in Australia’s 25-man squad, Netherlands-based Danny
Vukovic and Denmark-based Lawrence Thomas.
“We have three great goalkeepers.
Unfortunately, the Australian-based goalkeepers at the moment are having trouble
getting out of Australia because of the quarantine when they go home.”
Ryan’s former Brighton teammate Mooy has made just five Chinese Super League
appearances for Shanghai Port this year, the most recent on May 16.
With the CSL in a threeand-a-half month hiatus to allow China’s national team to
prepare for its World Cup qualifiers, Mooy has returned to the UK to be with his
family.
He is maintaining his fitness via a program devised by Socceroos strength and
conditioning coach Andrew Clark.
“Aaron’s been back in Scotland with the family,” Arnold said.
“He’s been given an individual program. Andrew Clark went across to Scotland
during the break (between international windows) and spent a week with Aaron.
“He worked him extremely hard on his own, and ‘Clarky’ came back and said he’s in
great shape, and he could easily play a full game, so he’s in a very good headspace.
“He’s with his family and he’s very happy. He said he’s very fit and ready to go.”
If the Socceroos beat Oman, they will become the first nation in history to win 11
successive matches in a single qualifying campaign.
The Socceroos top Group B in the third round of Asian Football qualifiers. The top
two teams from Groups A and B will automatically qualify for next year’s World Cup.

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
1-1 halftime versus Oman.
Good early goal by Mabil, but then Australia’s midfield was over-run. Oman collectively and individually with better ball control.
Oman deserved to equalise, despite losing their best player to a shoulder injury.
I hope Arnie shakes the players up during the break because Rogic was just plodding around in the midfield and Australia was making zero progress down the right flank.
Away from Qatar, it was good to hear the Saudis beat Japan 1-0, although that will make Japan desperate against Australia on Tuesday.

In the end it was a 3-1 win with second half goals by Boyle and Duke.
Not their best performance so will need to improve against a desperate Japan on Tuesday 12 October (8.44pm S.A. time on Ch10).

The Socceroos have become the first ever nation to win 11 consecutive FIFA World Cip qualifiers in a single campaign, not sure many other teams would get the opportunity to play this many games let alone beat it, but anyway well done and now over to a massive game against Japan.

Lost 1-2 in Japan tonight. Just can’t quite get over the the line over there.
Hit the post in the first half and should have scored.
Gutsy effort to equalise in the second half but then conceded an untidy winner to Japan late on.
Now onward for some home games to seal qualification for World Cup 2022.

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
i reckon Arnie left it too late with his subs, both goals we conceded were very unlucky IMO, that deflection from the cross caught out Beich and the second one was probably more poor defending to allow that cross to come over, that Japanese players that created that second goal sure created havoc when he came on, at least the remaining games are all at home bar one against the saudi's
Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
Poor coaching at the end of the game from Arnie.
He looked to be going for a win, when he should of settled for a draw and closed the game down.
When you have an away point against one of the powerhouse teams with 10 minutes to go you don't go all out and risk the loss.
Now we must get a result against the Saudi's as a loss and a Japan win will have them level with us on points.

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
Arnie should have not changed a winning line-up just so he could give Mooy a run, he was well below his best and could never really get into the game.
Behic played well with Mabil on the wing and appeared unable to cope without his support which cost us dearly.
If Arnie wanted to give Mooy a go he should have used him as late sub when we had the game sewn up and not start him against our most dangerous opponent in Asia.
And leaving the former Mullet Man out was stupidity to the Max.

Doubt it will be needed. With all those home games to come, should at least come second to Saudi Arabia and qualify.Grosso Mk II wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 1:41 pm good luck in the playoff against South American opposition
And umm, a reminder: Australia did overcome South America’s Uruguay in November 2005 and qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. And had VAR existed in 2006 Grosso would have been yellow-carded for that dive and Italia, already down to 10 men would have been over-run in extra time as Hiddink still had 2 fresh reserves to throw on.
Fate dealt Australia a dirty hand because they would have gone to that quarter-final in Hamburg and beaten Ukraine. Imagine what making a semi-final against the host nation Germany done for the game here!

ask anyone with a clue who isn't Australian and they'll tell you the correction decision was awarded
Australia didn't create a single chance all game, even against 10 men and the red that was given was later acknowledged to be the wrong decision
if it went to a shoot out you think Soccerwhos would've won with Buffon in goal?

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
THE Socceroos are finally coming home after 763 days on the road and will play
their next World Cup qualifier in Sydney.
A clash with Saudi Arabia is locked in at Western Sydney Stadium in Parramatta on
Thursday, November 11, the first match at home for the Socceroos since taking on
Nepal in Canberra in October 2019.
Socceroos coach Graham Arnold had urged NSW government officials to throw open
the door to fans after a last-start loss to Japan ended an 11- match winning streak.
The stadium will be at 75 per cent capacity for the game, with up to 22,500 to be
admitted.
“I believe playing in front of home fans at a beautiful stadium and on a great pitch
will help us,” Arnold said.
“Fans can provide energy to players and teams, and after having been away from
Australia for so long, I expect that our players will harness and use the support that
Australia's Ajdin Hrustic celebrates after scoring against Japan at Saitama
Stadium this month.
will be in Western Sydney Stadium on November 11.
“Now I urge the players, together with the fans, to enjoy the moment and feed off
one another’s energy as together we strive to take another positive step towards
qualification for Qatar.”
Football Australia chief executive James Johnson said it was a big moment for the
Socceroos.
“The Socceroos are an iconic Australian team and one that has always enjoyed a very
close connection with the Australian public,” he said.
“Unfortunately, throughout the team’s pursuit of qualification for a fifth consecutive
World Cup, they have had to play 11 of their 12 matches abroad. Despite the
challenges which this has presented, the Socceroos have performed exceptionally
well.
“We’re delighted that the team will have the opportunity to return to Australia to
continue their World Cup quest in front of Australian fans.”
Australia will play its second match of November’s FIFA window against China on
Tuesday, November 16. The details of this match are yet to be finalised. Final home
fixtures against Vietnam and Japan next January and March are also set to be
played in Australia.

Leckie, Maclaren and Nabbout return for Socceroos, but Mooy to miss World Cup qualifiers
Aaron Mooy has joined fellow playmaker Tom Rogic as a Socceroos’ absentee but Jamie Maclaren, Mathew Leckie and Andrew Nabbout all return to the national squad.
Melbourne City attacking trio Mathew Leckie, Jamie Maclaren and Andrew Nabbout have been recalled to the Socceroos squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and China.
However, injured pair Tom Rogic and Adam Taggart are missing from squad, as is playmaker Aaron Mooy, who is in quarantine after his club Shanghai Port forced him to return to China.
Attacking weapon Martin Boyle has been named in the squad despite a Covid-19 outbreak at his Scottish club Hibernian.
The Socceroos meet Saudi Arabia, who lead Group B in the third round of AFC World Cup qualifiers, at CommBank Stadium on Thursday night in the Australians’ first match on home soil since October 2019.
They back up in the early morning of Wednesday, November 16 (AEDT) against China in Sharjah in the UAE.
“The players selected for our upcoming FIFA window are brimming with excitement to return home and to play in front of Australian supporters, as well as their family and friends,” Socceroos coach Graham Arnold said.
“The players will get so much energy from playing in front of a strong home crowd at a first-class stadium.
“With border restrictions in some locations across the nation easing, we’ve been able to welcome some Australian-based players back into the Socceroos’ family this window.
“Mathew, Jamie and Andrew have all been watching our campaign from afar over the past two months, and they are thrilled with the opportunity to re-join the squad and make an impact on our qualification campaign.
“Tom Rogic, Aaron Mooy and Adam Taggart were unavailable for selection ... however we have developed good depth in the Socceroos over the past few years and the squad that has been selected is one that we have full belief in to perform strongly for the Australian public.”
The squad also includes uncapped former Central Coast Mariners midfielder Gianni Stensness.
Norway-based Stensness was born in Australia but represented New Zealand, the nation of his father’s birth, at the Tokyo Olympics.
However, he pledged his allegiance to Australia in September.
Socceroos squad:
Aziz Behich (Giresunspor, Turkey), Martin Boyle (Hibernian FC, Scotland), Milos Degenek (Red Star Belgrade, Serbia), Kenneth Dougall (Blackpool FC, England), Mitchell Duke (Fagiano Okayama, Japan), Callum Elder (Hull City AFC, England), Denis Genreau (Toulouse FC, France), Rhyan Grant (Sydney FC), Ajdin Hrusic (Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany), Jackson Irvine, FC St. Pauli, Germany), Jimmy Jeggo (Aris Thessaloniki, Greece), Fran Karacic (Brescia Calcio, Italy), Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City), Awer Mabil (Midtjylland, Denmark), Jamie Maclaren (Melbourne City), Riley McGree (Birmingham City, England), Andrew Nabbout (Melbourne City), Nikita Rukavytsya (Hapoel Be’er Sheva FC, Israel), Mat Ryan (Real Sociedad, Spain), Trent Sainsbury (KV Kortrijk, Belgium), Harry Souttar (Stoke City, England), Gianni Stensness (Viking FK, Norway), Lawrence Thomas (SonderjyskE Fodbold, Denmark), Danny Vukovic (NEC Nijmegen, Netherlands).

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
i am just hoping that Arnie picks the starting 11 on current club and recent country form and not on previous seasons performances.
He went with previous form last time against Japan and we lost that one, FFS pick the team on RECENT Form not past glories!

The older I get the better I was.
