Watching the Swedish team was like watching the old 1960's films, "Children of the Dammed" and 'Village of the Dammed'.
The older I get the better I was.

Spain could afford to take their keeper off the ground and they'd be in no danger of conceding

Just wait until 2024 Olympics.
By then, that squad will have grown up with the curriculum from the start. Gold medal contenders

Re: Tough draws for Olyroos and Matildas @ Tokyo/Japan
0-1? Not a disgrace against a country double Australia’s population and it’s player resources not divided up among 4 different football codes (AFL, NRL, Rugby Union & soccer-football).
Perspective shows Spain’s pedigree and what Australia was up against. Winners of a World Cup, 3 Euro Championships and an Olympic Gold Medal.
I do like what the commentator said about Spain’s law that clubs the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and other clubs MUST release players to the national Olympic team. Similar availability of the likes of senior players such Ryan, Mooy and Leckie might have strengthened this Olympic team.
As for soft Sunny Vanilla ice cream , TV advert or whatever pseudonym it goes by these days and his cousin - they sound like a couple of Australia haters posting from overseas. Perfect material for a good psychiatrist to analyse on what has moulded these psychos.

Football at the Olympics for professional players is and has always been bollocks, along with tennis etc.Con M wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:31 pm 0-1? Olympics are for the minority sports and swimming/athletics.

Yet host countries down the years love football being an Olympic sport because of the massive ticket sales they generate.Victor Meldrew wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 8:52 amFootball at the Olympics for professional players is and has always been bollocks, along with tennis etc.Con M wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:31 pm 0-1? Olympics are for the minority sports and swimming/athletics.
Even in 2000 the Football tournament started with 93,000 at the MCG watching Australia v Italy and a record 104,000 in Sydney watched the gold medal match between Spain and Cameroon.
Young future stars emerged from Sydney 2000. Xavi & Puyol for Spain, Ronaldinho & Adriano for Brazil, Pirlo & Nesta for Italy, etc.
Little Adelaide drew 18,000 for the early group game between Nigeria and Italy and another 18,000 for the Quarter Final between Japan and USA. (Capacity had been increased by filling in the corners of Hindmarsh with temporary grandstands).
Imperfect that the Olympic Football tournaments are with over-23-age players limited to three and some competing countries not having fully-professional players while others are, Football has always has been in the Olympics and will continue to be.

I agree ConM from a revenue /crowds and atmosphere basis that football as integral part of the Olympics. I would however have it returned to a true under 23 tournament.Con M wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 10:10 amYet host countries down the years love football being an Olympic sport because of the massive ticket sales they generate.Victor Meldrew wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 8:52 amFootball at the Olympics for professional players is and has always been bollocks, along with tennis etc.Con M wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:31 pm 0-1?
