Southgate has done better than any other English coach in the recent past.

i think thats an understatement.....a SF loss at the WC and a Final loss at the Euro's is only second to Ramsey himself.
at the risk of being accused of trolling...genuine question...has he overachieved or underachieved????

1966 - went to extra time
Rugby World Cup - needed a kick in extra time from Jonny
Cricket World Cup - needed a rule to save them in a tie
Now Euro - but bottled it on pens
Overall, all cabernet aside, Italy deserving winners, on the whole.

Re: Euro 2020
Formula 1 star Lando Norris had his $75,000 watch nicked at Wembley as fans ran riot in disgraceful scenes.
It gets worse.
How would this be looked upon for England's chances of holding a world cup in the future?

Re: Euro 2020
England and Republic of Ireland are to put a joint bid to host 2030 World Cup. The incidents surrounding the Euro Final would have to negative impact given the world wide coverage,

Why would we host with them?
These incidents happen at every tournament, it's just the media likes to beat up England stories.

There was no gift though. Re: Euro 2020
He's got the best squad of available players I've seen in my lifetime (which predates '66, although I don't remember that far back) and I think that, apart from France, the teams at the Euros were not as strong as they have been in the past, it was an ideal opportunity.

Re: Euro 2020
Mark Ogden ESPN footballSorry to put a dampener on what ended up being a great tournament, but the prematch scenes at Wembley on Sunday will stain the memory of Euro 2020. It was English football at its worst and a reminder that, no matter what progress is made on the pitch by the team, the same mindless idiots who have embarrassed England at World Cups and Euros for decades continue to behave and act like an unwanted guest at a party. The fan disorder and violence played out on TV screens across the globe and will probably kill any hopes of a joint British and Irish bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Why would any nation vote to host it in a country where fans are able to storm the gates to the stadium hours before a major final?

Re: Euro 2020
I thought this tournament was great with several European nations hosting games, why can't they get together and bid for the 2030 tournament, would be a certainty to get it, and like they did with the Euro's once you get to the semi's you just move to one location like Wembley???

Spain/Portugal & Bulgaria/Greece/Romania/Serbia are doing just that. Although the final stadium bit probably won't happen, each country will want a semi at least.Rookie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:25 amI thought this tournament was great with several European nations hosting games, why can't they get together and bid for the 2030 tournament, would be a certainty to get it, and like they did with the Euro's once you get to the semi's you just move to one location like Wembley???

UEFA have already come out and conceded the multi host country format was unfair and ultimately favoured England....theyve hinted that they wont structure the tournament like that again. 2 neighbouring countries yes but not cross continental.Unread post by Rookie » Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:55 am

Re: Euro 2020
Km's travelled between countries.....c'mon surely you can see that....
nothing wrong with the host country being stationed in a particular city for as long as possible but when other countries are criss-crossing the continent, of course it becomes a disadvantage.
eg: Belgium a pre tournament favourite travelled approx 5700 MILES in the group stage alone (to Russia twice). then travelled to Spain for the Round of 16 and to Germany for the quarters
2 of Englands knock-out opponents (Denmark and Czech) were amongst the most travelled.
Im not suggesting that England werent worthy of their final appearance but the above highlights the additional 'leg up' the the fixtures and locations afforded them.
