Re: Euro 2020
Agreed. Unless you're in that position don't criticise. Was he (and other) the right player to take the penalty? The manager and his team mates thought so. Imagine being a keeper? He's the only one there. Last line of defence.

Re: Euro 2020
If you're confident, then you put your hand up, BUT the manager takes final call. Maybe a couple of the more experienced didn't want to take them? If so, that would be disappointing, but any penalty shoot out is a lottery, and Italian keeper did well bottom line.

Disgusting behaviour and no doubt something the non-football lovers will be showing first tonight on the news rather than the wonder on what this tournament actually bought to a continent that has been struggling over the last 18 months like the rest of the world, put this dogs on a island by themselves and let them go for it, waaaaankersozzie owl wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:26 pmSadly the night was marred by violence in and around Wembley, by a miority of the 67k crowd.Michael wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 11:52 am Disgusting the abuse that Rashford, Sancho And Saka have just received from English supporters for their missed penalties.

Re: Euro 2020
if youre suggesting the term refers to the idea that a major football tournament is to be played in the 'home of football', isnt it silly to keep singing it after the tournament has started???Unread post by God is an Englishman » Mon Jul 12, 2021 2:46 pm
It came home this tournament.Bomber wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:26 am
It has been away from "home" so long now, I think it's now officially presumed dead.
we all know that the original meaning of the term has changed though.

Re: Euro 2020
One day England may try and win a major tournament in "normal time".
1966 - went to extra time
Rugby World Cup - needed a kick in extra time from Jonny
Cricket World Cup - needed a rule to save them in a tie
Now Euro - but bottled it on pens
Overall, all shit aside, Italy deserving winners, on the whole.

Grealish has just come out and said that he told Southgate that he wanted to take a penalty....dont know about Sterling but if this is the case will the loss be on his head and his head alone?

Seldom agree with you GIAE but at least you wear your heart on your sleeve and support your nation to the hilt. Would be easy for you to jump on the bandwagon and kick Southgate and his team when they are down. I think that once the dust settles and the pain eases most Englishmen will appreciate how well the team performed and how close they came to winning it.God is an Englishman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 2:18 pm Well done to italy, well done to Gareth and the lads. Genuinely feel for the young lads that missed their penalties but they did have the balls to take them. Yes Southgate made mistakes and he will take much stick for relying on the less experienced players but they must have been confident or they would not have taken one. There is no guarantee that the most experienced players would have taken them any better
and at the end of the day it all stinks of hindsight and the haters wanting to hate.
A great effort by England but Italy must be respected and applauded for their game management and how well they handled the occasion of going a goal down after two minutes, lesser teams would have crumbled.

Maybe Grealish ane Sterling could have taken penalties but who knows if they would have scored. Again, they had a plan and as Southgate has said, the best 5 penalty takers on the pitch took them.

I will never understand why a bloke who can strum a ball like Rashford has to fuck about dancing. Kane and Maguire showed how pens should be taken.God is an Englishman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:12 pmSouthgate has said, the best 5 penalty takers on the pitch took them.

Re: Euro 2020
For the record I was kicking Southgate when he was up. To see Chiesa play so wonderfully for Italy while Grealish and Sancho are sat on the bench is not acceptable to me, Won’t have faith in a manager who won’t have faith in his ball playersthebeautifulgame wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:53 pmSeldom agree with you GIAE but at least you wear your heart on your sleeve and support your nation to the hilt. Spot on he has a squad blessed with attacking and creative talent and simply doesn't seem to know how to use them. The final was crying out for Grealish to come on change the game , why did he wait till extra time?N5 1BH wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 10:16 amFor the record I was kicking Southgate when he was up.
