Doug Out, Katsakis In
The coaching merry go round in the Foxtel Cup gets even more bizzare. This week, after just six weeks at the helm at Heidelberg, Doug Hodgson resigned as coach from Heidelberg United on Monday night. The stunned board of Heidelberg United and the players were left speechless by the actions of Doug Hogdson.
Club President Elias Deliyannis said "there is clearly alot of bad blood now between Doug, the players and the club. We never expected this to happen but we have been clearly worried about rumours circulating about his long term future at Heidelberg over the past two weeks. I guess we are all stunned at the moment, but not surprised to hear he has been appointed coach of Richmond." There is no doubt in our minds he was poached to go to Richmond.
Former Heidelberg player and Coach Phil Stubbins who coaches Richmond at the moment departs Richmond to take up the spot as assistant coach of Adelaide United in the A-League.
What we don't forgive about about his departure is the reason for his departure and the truth will get out there eventually. So it will be for others to form opinions about him.
"As for the club we are a business and we need to move on. The clubs major sponsor Didi was philosophical about the departure when he addressed the players "Its his loss. Not the clubs loss nor the players loss."
The club quickly appointed George Katsakis along with Captain Andy Vlahos as his assistant. This is George's second stint at the club. The last one was as an assistant. Since then the young man has grown into an adult and finds himself at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in Australia.
With the biggest game of the year coming up this week against Preston it was important for the club to appoint someone who lives, breathes and thinks Heidelberg. Although this formula has not been successful for them with the departures of Pappas and now Hodgson this season, this appointment feels right.
George has served his time with other clubs learning the trade. His last stint at a Premier League club was Kingston City. He took them from State 2 through to the Premier League in 2006 in a matter of seasons.
Katsakis has the full support of the club, the board and the major sponsor to back him all the way to the title in 2007.

Well Stefano Palazzi's trusted minstrel is still getting his boss Palazzi's favourite songs of all time. In that dark citadel of death that you Inter people live in.Michael Jackson wrote:just beat it...beat it...beat it...beat it...no 1 wants to be defeated...huh
Is that what you sing to all the gothics in Inter's citadel and Palazzi smiles in approval?
So it was palazzi that got you out of hot water in your trial because you are his loyal servant?
