Re: Challenge Cup
Normal cup, just new format where division 1&2 clubs sit out the early preliminary rounds

Re: Challenge Cup
Not a new format at all. Has been like this for the 10+ years I've been playing amateur football. Div 1 and 2 clubs never had their first cup game until after round 4 or 5 in the league.

Re: Challenge Cup
Probably the only change is calling it round 1 from the start, rather than preliminary rounds.chunky-monkey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 6:49 amNot a new format at all. Re: Challenge Cup
You'll find there are a couple of Div 2 sides who unluckily got drawn to play in round 2.
So they have the correct number of teams in the comp from round 3 onwards, usually Div 1 and 2 sides get Byes until then

Re: Challenge Cup
Don’t think the reserves followed the first team from memory, thought that was new this season?chunky-monkey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 6:49 amNot a new format at all. Re: Challenge Cup
Whats stopping people joining clubs that are already there?
Interested to hear so you think more clubs will make the competition more viable and stronger?

Re: Challenge Cup
What if those clubs cant host 4 or 5 teams due to their facilities or their own capabilities due to resources.
Re: Challenge Cup
I think its the nature of the beast
You probably right... lots of 1 team clubs... only surviving because of maybe 1 or 2 people who do teh bulk of it all.. leverage of facilities out there...
Dont know how sustainable it is..
but it is what it is at the end of the day.

Re: Challenge Cup
Probably Week leading into April 24/25th
Not that anyone might need to change work or other commitments why can't they draw the next round the Monday after the last round of the cup ...
The big question will Ghan be in the cup **

Re: Challenge Cup
Cup draws out of a hat?
Coincidence that 3 matches in Challenge Cup and Reserve Cup have the same pairings. Maybe convenient - and gives the home teams a bit of extra turnover at the bar, but not a true cup draw.

Re: Challenge Cup
I think that only the teams in the Challenge Cup are drawn, the reserves are simply just following their first team, or whoever their first team lost too!
Re: Challenge Cup
Maybe, but if both comps are meant to be a true Cup, then they should have independent draws...…...not that the SAASL is necessarily one for following the mob - we were probably the last comp in the world to adopt 3 points for a win.
