COVID-19 Disruption of football season
Read with interest about people's opinions regarding the Coronavirus outbreak and what should happen if the plug is pulled and the season is prematurely ended. I think there has been sensible talk but also some nonsense.
This aside UEFA were forced in to a massive call in 1999 when the 1st Division in the former Yugoslavia was cut short by ten games (24 of 34 games played) due to NATO's bombing of the country. Partizan Belgrade were a mere 2 points ahead of rivals Obilic and UEFA and the Yugoslavian Football authorities declared that Partizan Begrade to be the 1998/1999 title winners. Although a unique circumstance UEFA could be seen as setting a precedent with this decision.
By coincidence one of the Partizan players from that season currently manages Polish outfit Legia Warsaw who are 8 points clear and they will also have an anxious wait if their season is prematurely finished.
There is also the problem of remaining domestic Cups to be played out and in Scotland it has been touted that the four remaining teams in the Scottish Cup (Hibs, Hearts, Celtic and Aberdeen) may play the games NEXT SEASON!
I do agree that all options should be explored to finish off the existing season to keep in line with 'sporting integrity' but totally refute the null and void option touted by some. If the season is prematurely ended the teams at the top should become Champions. Tougher at the promotion/relegation end but it would be difficult to go against current positions being final positions as long as games played are equal (not the case in some leagues).
The vast majority of clubs in Scotland will struggle without the revenue from games and some will go to the wall if it drags on. Sponsorship alone in Scotland (and other Leagues) is not enough to maintain their livelihoods over an indefinite period of time. Sincerely hope that the respective Governments can help financially to keep them afloat.

Big question should the EPL clubs give up small percentgae of their TV revenue to ensure survival of many of the 72 EFL? Unlike EPL clubs, EFL clubs biggest revenue stream is gate receipts.

Sigh, the ignorance of the young and historically challenged.
Believe it or not, the Second World War finished before I was even a twinkle in my Father's eye - 1946, I was born in 1949.

I didnt really care about the virus until it started to cancel sports events. I started taking it seriously when I heard from the news that it cancelled football events. I hope they can find a vaccine soon.
