Southern Knights hosted Modbury Vista on a day that ended with mixed emotions...relief and disappointment...relief that Knights posted their first Sunday Premier Division point
and disappointment in missing an opportunity to post their first win in the dying seconds.
Knights were minus Paul Russell and Scott Bradley but welcomed the return of Matt Daughtry and Aaron O'Toole along with a starting debut for Darren Spalding.
Both Knights and Modbury employed a quite attacking approach to the game but Vista drew first blood when Mark Clayton struck a 35 metre free kick into
the top right hand corner of the net, leaving Stephen Maguire little chance.
Ben Jones ran hard through the midfield and Darren Spalding slotted in nicely alongside whilst Matt Daughtry, Robert Marsden and Andy Alvino ran down Vistas defence and midfield to apply pressure.
Jamie Faulkner, Matt Harrison, Chris Bradley and Aaron O'Toole had their work cut out with the pace of Robbie Williams and Scott Gannon up front for Vista.
Despite chances to both sides Vista went to the break with a slim 0-1 lead.
In the scond half Knights took a while to get going and thankfully some great saves from Stephen Maguire (and the woodwork) kept Knights in striking range.
Matthew Harrison eventually gave Southern Knights an equaliser when he forced the ball into the net from close range after a set play.
Both teams had chances to add to the scoreline through Darren Spalding and Tom Foglia for Knights, and Scott Gannon and Robbie Williams for Vista, but fate and some excellent goalkeeping kept the teams poised at 1-1.
Athony Micheal came on late in the game and in the last seconds was brought down by Vista's keeper, Jayden Shepherd, as he tried to round him resulting in a penalty.
Unfortunately for Tom Foglia, Shepherd chose the right side to dive and saved well...Aaron O'Toole followed in after the save but an awkward bounce game Vista time to apply pressure and within seconds referee Steve Vlassis ended the game.

Southern Knights Reserves squandered a few early opportunities in front of goal and were left rueing their inability to find the back of the net.
Modbury struck first with a goal fired through a crowded goalmouth and went to the break with a single goal lead.
In the second half Vista added a second when they headed home from a Scotty Hall free kick but Knights pulled a goal back when Anthony Michael finished of a good moved.
Unfortunately for Knights their momentum was thwarted when they gifted Vista a goal from an intercepted soft back pass.
Vista added a further goal to take a 1-4 lead and Knights pulled back a goal in the last minutes to finish the game at 2-4.
