Carvalho is not rubbish. I think he had a great season. I wouldnt say that he is better than Nesta but he's not rubbish.

There was always this "inter curse" where you would see big names fail at Inter, but forget that curse, the Real Madrid curse is the new curse. Madrid - the place defenders go to ruin their career.
Sergio Ramos, Roberto Carlos, Hiero etc etc all world class defenders who have blomossed at Real Madrid. Our mistake with defenders is buying the wrong ones, or promoting ones who are not good enough to grace the famous white shirt, e.g. Cannavaro, Woodgate, Raul Bravo, Panucci and Cicinho.
When we purchase defenders good enough, we almost certainly make them even better, watch Sergio Ramos, he will be one of the greatest defenders of all time.

Just because Cannavaro is very good in Italy (not even the best, Nesta is the best) doesn't mean he is very good in Spain, in fact he is actually quite bad, I watch all of Madrid's games and he is garbage. Maybe he can cut it in a lessor league like Serie A, but La Liga is much more difficult.
Sergio maynot be quite world class yet, but mark my words he will be ten times the defender Puyol is as well as being one of the greatest defenders of all time, his technical ability is just as good as his defensive abilities, something very rare in someone so young. The best defensive signing we made since we signed Makelele.
if it's all about this season performance, there's no way cannavaro in the list .. i've seen quite a few matches where real madrid play this season, and cannavaro is just not convincing AT ALL !! Puyol and Terry definitely there.. nesta - how the fk am i going to know .. carragher/ carvahlo = agree !!
