Soccer Clubs of SAASL

On the weekend two of our referees were assaulted, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

SAASRA will not appoint officials to any club, grade or division again who assaults officials.

The two clubs involved have been informed by our association that we have ban them.

SAASRA Committee have made a decision any person, player, official or spectator of your club assault an official, your whole club will be given an automatic ban.

Quite frankly our association have had enough, SAASRA have zero tolerance for any club in any division that assault an official.

Surely for any team found guilty of assault / abuse towards a referee it would be an advantage for them to to use their own club referee. Therefore, I cant see that it is any form of punishment.

The situation of having the rogue teams supplying their own club referee would create a farce and probably cause more trouble - these rogue teams need to be banned from the competition before somebody gets hurt.

Don't sell the rest of the league short. There is a widespread problem of abusive behaviour, verbal and/or otherwise right across the league. Many comments have been made on this forum about supporters "giving as good as they get" and the like.

Stop the abuse of players and officials from the sidelines. Make a stand at each of your own clubs and stamp it out.

There was talk on here about a player at a club being sent off if you get stuck into him. Grow up people there are children at these games looking up to this moronic behaviour and believing it is just fine.

Shake hands before and after the game with both players and officials. Refer to the referee as sir when you address him. Only allow your captain to approach the officials with a question for clarification. Thank the officials and the opposition for the game when its over.

I understand that it's now up to 1. Teams not play or 2. saasl to throw them out as their games can't be played by the letter of their law

This is a valid point. The clubs with a decent leadership structure control their teams. They promote a respectful culture to officials and the opposing team. Yet we continue to accept these hacks entering the competition, playing at a cow paddock with no respect for anything or anyone.

FIZI players spat on referee last Saturday and the week before against Murray Bridge, apparently referee had to quickly leave the ground as he didn't feel safe(Murray Bridge not involved) if I was from Strathalbyn or Southern Breakers I would be refusing to play FIZI away, as they would actually like not having official referees, means they can cheat, just like their 3 linesman they used on Saturday. Referee had to dismiss them due to them cheating and abusing him, so just imagine them with their own club referee as well.

Think there were threats and intimidation last week in Div3 (guess who??) where a ref had to be escorted off the pitch by the home team for his safety and also escorted to his car after the game as he was scared.
I think the behaviour is linked to the teams that just can't stand losing or when things don't go their way.
If the refs have banned them and refuse to ref their games they should be banned from the league SIMPLES!!

We all know this wasn't an isolated issue over the weekend, this has been going on for 2-3 years now, and still SAASL do nothing to protect the referees.

A club could have an isolated incident in one grade with one person that the marshalls do their job and act accordingly and the whole club is practically banned.

that is a point most have trouble understanding. it is not just 'new' clubs who are guilty of this.
abuse towards officials has been going on and getting worse in amateurs for years.
going on the behaviour of some players in div 1 and some of their spectators we would have had some div 1 clubs banned this year for 'one isolated incident'.
