Craig Laird's SAASL Sunday Premier Division Round Up
League Round 11 - Sunday July 9, 2017

Match of the Day
THE Top of the table encounter between Elizabeth Downs and an understrength Parafield Gardens has seen Elizabeth Downs romp to a 7-0 win at Argana Park.
Gardens came into the game eight points behind the Maroons and without a number of key players out through suspension.
Tommy Blackett opened the scoring for the home team on 15 minutes when a speculative shot found its way past the keeper and into the net.
Striker Matt Watson then twice got on the end of Luke Lawley crosses to see the Downs 3-0 up at the break.
There was no let up by the classy Downs outfit in the 2nd half as Luke Lawley got on the scoresheet with a back post tap in before Billy Allotey got busy with a 2nd half hat trick.
The win moves the Downs nine points clear of Brahma Lodge at the top of the table.
Downs Coach Alan Mottram “We aren’t getting ahead of ourselves it’s just one game at a time and we now change our focus onto the Cup which we’re look forward to”.

BRAHMA Lodge have moved to 2nd on the table after a comfortable 5-0 win over Para Hills East at Para Hills Oval.
Lodge came into the game looking to build on a round 10 12-1 win over Salisbury Florina while Easties were hoping to break a three game losing run in the league.
As they often do Lodge started strongly and Lewis Vallelonga opened the scoring when he fired home from an Aleks Simic cross.
It was 2-0 to Brahma inside 15 minutes when Vallelonga tapped in from six yards and the Champions took a three goal lead to the break when Peter McDermott scored from close range.
After the break Jarred Foster set up goals for Michael Mullen and Anthony Hartwell as Lodge made it three wins on the bounce.
Lodge coach Ryan Mogg “The Downs have it in their hands but we will look to push them all the way.”

ELIZABETH Vale and Salisbury Inter have played out a scrappy 0-0 draw in their clash at Moflin Road.
Both teams came into the game in good recent form, both undefeated in their last three games, but neither team created too many clear cut chances as Vale drop to 5th and Inter 6th on the table.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “We weren’t at our best today but the boys dug in and deserved a point.”

SALISBURY Florina has rebounded from an embarrassing round 10 result to defeat Ingle Farm 3-2 at Underdown Park.
Florina were looking for a response to a 12-1 thrashing at the hands of Brahma Lodge last week and they opened the scoring on 10 minutes through Jason Trimboli who fired the ball low and hard from a free kick.
Florina went two up on 15 minutes when BJ McCormack got on the end of a cross before slotting home and the home team went to the break 3-0 up when Trimboli scored a 2nd.
To the credit of Ingle Farm they responded after the break when Callum McKay fired home with a low hard shot across the goalkeeper on the hour.
With 20 minutes left on the clock Farm made it 3-2 when Allah Mobedi eluded two defenders before taking his chance.
Farm had a goal disallowed for offside on 89 minutes as Florina held onto the points.
Florina Coach Jeff McCormack “I was really happy with the response from the boys, they worked hard at training and got the result”.
Farm coach Paul Simpson “Sometimes when you are down at the bottom you don’t get that bit of luck, hopefully that changes”.
TWO stoppage time goals have helped Modbury Vista to a dramatic 3-2 win over Southern Knights at Richardson Reserve.
Knights travelled north looking to end an eight game losing streak and took a five minute lead through a Ben Jones header.
Vista drew level on 25 minutes when Russell Clayton fired home a low hard free kick.
After the break Knights missed an opportunity when Jamie Faulkner’s penalty was well saved by Vista goalie Bobby Bilney but the disappointment was short lived as Shaun Papworth scored from 30 yards to give Knights a 2-1 lead.
In stoppage time Modbury equalised through a Russell Clayton tap in and in the 7th minute of stoppage time Clayton headed his hat trick to steal all three points.
After waiting nine weeks for their first win, Vista have won two in a row and sit just one point behind the 8th placed Ingle Farm. Coach Steve Melling “It was a dramatic finish and it makes for an interesting end to the season.”

the league have different rules for different clubs. Im pretty sure anthony missed the game against florina the week before which was not during his suspension period and obviously the league have said it was ok because brahma arent stupid enough to play someone that is suspended.

My concern is when we played Inter 2 weeks ago and Centrone got booked the week before, i called and said shouldnt he miss the next game as you clearly know he has had 4 yellow cards and the reply i got from the chairman of the SAASL was "it has always been the same with yellow card suspensions, you dont miss the next game, you miss the following week"

Rules for some, rules for others.

He is on their suspended list on the website, surely this counts as playing a suspended player?

I do know the league aren't the best with suspensions. I recall a club being asked what week would you like the susoended player to miss haha
