Re: 2017/18 EPL Player ins and outs
ARSENAL could have signed Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe for $400,000 (£230,000) — but now face paying over £80million.
The French youngster has burst onto the scene this season and helped Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League semi-finals.
And after netting 24 times for the French club, a number of Europe’s top teams are looking into buying him, The Sun reports.
The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and United have all been linked with moves for Mbappe, 18.
But Gunners fans will not like to hear the fact that Arsene Wenger had the chance to sign Mbappe for just $400,000 last year.
Mbappe is now valued at $150 million (£87million) and Wenger knows he is going to have to splash the cash to land him.
The Gunners are reportedly ready to smash their record fee and break their wage structure to get Mbappe and convince Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to sign new deals.
Wenger revealed in March: “Well, I approached him last year because I really believe that he has an exceptional future ahead of him, that he has all the qualities.
“He reminds me of a young Thierry Henry with the same clever look about him, the same qualities of intelligence in his movements and cat-like finishing. So that’s why.
“I think he’s an exceptional talent who promises to have a great future.”
Wenger even revealed he went to Mbappe’s house to try and convince him Arsenal was the right club for him.
He said: “The player would tell you that I was at his home last year to try to get him here.
“Because he was at the end of his contract but Monaco managed to keep him and the decision was very, very tight.
“But I could understand it as well because he was educated there and at the end decided to stay there.”
It follows The Sun’s revelation that Wenger has been handed a club record $285 million (£165million) transfer war chest and has been told to spend it all.
The Gunners boss has been told to mount a serious Premier League title challenge after penning a new two-year deal to extend his stay.
Despite winning the FA Cup, fans were left furious as Arsenal missed out on Champions League football for the first time in 21 years with a fifth place finish.
The kid can find the back of the net.
And owner Stan Kroenke wants to see an influx of world class stars playing at the Emirates next season so they don’t lose further ground on their Premier League rivals reported by the People.
Wenger has wasted no time in attempting to land hotshot Kylian Mbappe after launching a stunning $150 million (£87m) bid.
Monaco have rejected the offer knowing the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United could be prepared to pay around £100m to land the sensation.
But Wenger is expected the vamp up his pursuit of Leicester’s wantaway midfielder Riyad Mahrez although is bulking at the Foxes’ £40m asking price.
Barcelona’s Arda Turan remains another option having failed to establish himself at the Nou Camp.
The Spanish side’s new boss Ernesto Valverde doesn’t see the Turk as part of his first-team plans moving forward and could be available for around £25m.
Meanwhile Wenger is insistent that contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will not leave the club this summer.
Both players have one-year left on their deals and Wenger is willing to break wage structure to keep them at the Emirates.

Lacazette on his way to the Gunners for 45 million quid, assuming he passes his medical. Took wenger 5 long years but looks to have finally lashed out on a proper striker. French of course, what else, and behind giroud & benzema in the France pecking order which is a bit of a worry coz they’re both sh!t. Is a goal scorer though so there's some hope.

With all the signings so far ( and many more to come), feel sorry for Gareth Southgate as he will struggle to see many English players playing regularly in EPL.

Why do you care? You don't see yourself as English anymore.
