It's a shame as our greatest manager is turning all supporters against him and will be remembered for the last 10 years and not his first 10

That's the problem with the UCL when it allows 4th placed side to play in a competition called Champions League. The champions league should be for champions only.Nice One Cyril wrote:I think you're spot on. The old European Cup had some real dross competing in the early stages though and it's no different now in the qualifying stages. Is the champion of some tinpot European nation better than the fourth placed team in the EPL? I would say, not even close.ozzie owl wrote:That's the problem with the UCL when it allows 4th placed side to play in a competition called Champions League. Qualifying for the European Cup used to be a challenge, it isn't for the bigger clubs anymore. Then we have the issue with the name. The CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, how are a lot of the teams CHAMPIONS.Nice One Cyril wrote:The old European Cup had some real dross competing in the early stages though and it's no different now in the qualifying stages. I know the clubs aren't going to allow it to go back to the one team so why not make them earn a spot properly. England for example, 3 spots and it's league "champions", FA Cup "Champions" and League Cup "Champions".
Suddenly both cups become something worth winning.

Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
Irrespective of how difficult it was to qualify for, there were only ever about half a dozen countries that could realistically supply the winner, the rest were just there making up the numbers. It's a far harder comp to win these days and I don't really care what name they put on it.God is an Englishman wrote:Qualifying for the European Cup used to be a challenge, it isn't for the bigger clubs anymore. As for qualifying via the cups, I wouldn't mind that, I hate the way that they've become totally devalued. At least that would give Millwall a chance

Not an Arsenal supporter in any way but they could have been 4 or 5 goals up before Bayern scored....only saw the highlights but the send off and penalty was a bit mysterious.

Or like the team that gets knocked out the CL in the group stage only to then fold to a mid table Belgian feeder club in a much lesser comp. Now that's humiliating, who was it again....No more controversy wrote:

Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
I would completely agree with that, however the clubs will not agree to it. The champions was in inverted commas, surely they have more right to call themselves a champion than a team that wins nothing?N5 1BH wrote:Whose ever heard of league cup champions?? Re: Arsenal 2014/2015
Wenger’s time is certainly coming to an end, and it’s a shame that it’s come to this.
I don’t think his legacy will ever be questioned, but its obvious that his time is/should be up.
But the players owe him more than what theyre showing on the pitch. Wenger has shown faith with a whole bunch of them for years (rightly or wrongly), he's always defended them in the press and with Wenger’s position in question, they should be fighting for him more than what they have.
Now maybe that’s indicative of the fact Wenger’s message is no longer getting through. Who knows. But a lot of these players owe their careers to Wenger.
Also, the board need to come under more scrutiny – especially ‘Silent Stan’. Theyre just happy to coast along, not caring about on-field success as long as the bottom line keeps growing. Us fans deserve better.
The fact that they’ve put a 2 year contract extension in front of Wenger without even knowing if he wants to continue speaks volumes.
And if Wenger does decide to walk away (which will be 100% his decision – the board wont sack him by all reports), is there a contingency in place?
Do they have a plan on who to bring in? And it wont just be a Manager they’ll have to replace. Wenger is in charge of so much at the club, they’ll need to hire a whole new team of people. Has that process begun?
Either way, we're probably in the worst shape since pre-Wenger. Its gonna make for an interesting off-season
