I would put Vista at least mid table in Sun Div1 with their current squad. They are very competitive, maybe only lacking in 1-2 areas. But they have been very strong when I have watched them. The SL2 in my opinion has some strong sides at the top. But then very little below. It's the same old argument, the sides in SL2 are probably just a little fitter over 11 players than some in the SAASL. The mid to top table Div 1 SAASL sides I believe would take the SL2. It's a much different style of play as stated above.Chaos wrote:So you're saying SL2 is the equivalent, or lesser that, of a sunday div 2 side? I'm sure gully would have thought that also, they have more players that played a higher/ consistent level of ffsa prior to their coming to saasl. And those players haven't set div 1 on fire

Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
Any team that is promoted from Sunday Division will need 3-4 more good quality players to be competitive in the SAASL Sunday Premier Division.
Even Brahma Lodge, who blitzed Division 2 undefeated, still recruited a few players.
Creating an FFSA State League 2 team whilst bolstering their SAASL side will be a difficult, but not impossible task for Vista.
It might be a massive ask on volunteer resources also.
I've been a player involved in 6 promotion sides from Division 2 ( Downs 1975, 1977, 1981, 1984, 1992 and Noarlunga Lions 1994) and involved with another promoted Club (Southern Knights in 2013) and it has never been easy the following year....sometimes it can be soul destroying.

You are spot on about a massive ask for volunteer resources and unless you have the sponsors who can introduce some $$$'s to get some players who can get the SL2 team going and in the right direction it is going to be an uphill battle. You have to also ask why are the players in SAASL and not Feds is it work/sport balance or can not commit to 3 x training a week to maintain fitness/skills?
Also I think this should have read Brahma recruited players for their surge to win Sunday Div 2 and then again when promoted into Div 1 to get to where they are now.
Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
also vista play sunday and will now have seniors saturday, so many may not be able to do saturday anyway

they must have gotten better over the season or recruited late because they struggled against a sat div2 team and could only manage a draw and their ressies were comfortably beaten. However that was pre-season and who knows who was available or played.

They'll do trials for the state league side, the amateur teams are happy as amateur teams. Don't know where the players come from and quite frankly I'm concerned with it, it'll be separated to the amateurs, the lads that potentially could get promotion as league champions will be focused on giving div 1 a crack not stepping back to sl2

Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
If this is in reference to the ARBE game then we were missing a lot of players, in pre season and on a Saturday. 5 of the players who were involved in our first teams comfortable win are now in the reserves.spooky1972 wrote:they must have gotten better over the season or recruited late because they struggled against a sat div2 team and could only manage a draw and their ressies were comfortably beaten. Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
My point exactly. Brahma Lodge recruited not only players but sponsors too. No club has an easy job to get into div 1 and establish yourselves. Brahma Lodge were fortunate enough to have the players gel really well from the div 2 side, and the new additions have formed themselves straight into the frame to put them into the position they currently stand. The old argument of playing Sunday div 1 versus any SL side should be null and void. Two totally different comps. Players with totally different mindsets. IMO it shouldn't be raised. But if you feel the need to. Be realistic. As I am being by saying MV would not be mid table div 1. Let alone SL2. But I do wish you all the best in that venture and congratulate the club and committee on such a huge step. All the best.OMG wrote:swannsong wrote:Any team that is promoted from Sunday Division will need 3-4 more good quality players to be competitive in the SAASL Sunday Premier Division.

Correct result...Savoy far too strong and hungry on the day...Knights are not a big enough club to handle player unavailability...gutted for the lads.Getinthere wrote:Is that result correct savoy 8-1 Knights???

Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
Savoy 8 Knights 1..... a result that's blown the promotion race and the relegation fight wide open.
Vista will be promoted, but with who ?
Easties and Westies are in the box seats to contend the last promotion spot.Knights may have blown thier chance.
Raptors can still be in the race after todays results.
Ghan look safe to remain in 2nd Division for next year.
Savoy are hanging on but will need a lot of luck to stay.
That leaves Pontian, Angle Vale and Macedonia to play in Div 3 next year.

Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
Looking at fixtures Pirie have one game left, but the table says two? If it is the one they'd need to beat Westies (on a Saturday at westies looking at the fixtures), and Vale would need to pick up two points against Easties, Raptors and Knights. The table is always a mess at this time of year, I think I got that right!
Re: Sunday 2nd Div Promotion and relegation
Savoy do have 2 games to go we have a catch up game to be played against macadonia as their pitch was unplayable a few weeks ago.
