Magical Milan Dismiss The 'Rookies'
AC Milan 3-0 Manchester United (5-3 on agg.)
AC Milan eased into the final of the Champions League as they brushed aside a lacklustre Manchester United side to set up a re-match with Liverpool in Athens in three weeks thanks to goals from Kaká, Clarence Seedorf and Alberto Gilardino.
The Italian side dominated the encounter in the rain-soaked San Siro as the Red Devils failed to cope with the conditions and their opponents and looked a shadow of the side that won the first leg only seven days ago.
From the start it was evident that Milan were prepared not only for the rain, but also to confront the deficit that they faced and draw themselves back into the tie early on.
United looked cautious and ill-at-ease as their passing went astray and the trademark attacking at speed was virtually non-existent as the red and black barrier that faced them stood firm.
As early as the third minute the warning signs were there when Seedorf controlled the ball on the edge of the area before hammering a shot goalwards that his compatriot, Edwin Van der Sar, tipped over the bar.
Kaká then warmed the gloves of the United custodian as he connected with a Massimo Oddo cross from the right, after the Brazilian had already shown how brittle the visitors back line was by easing past Wes Brown at full tilt.
The opening goal duly arrived in the 11th minute as Seedorf cushioned a high ball down with his head and Kaká took aim from 18 yards to send a low drive into the bottom right-hand corner of Van der Sar's goal.
It was a finish that was clinical and, worse still for United, not unexpected as Sir Alex Ferguson's outfit were unable to move out of their own half in the opening exchanges.
Andrea Pirlo then took aim from distance, only to shoot wide, before Ryan Giggs gave a rare glimpse of what the Red Devils could do with a run and shot that Dida saved at the second attempt.
Just after the half-hour mark Milan took charge of the scoreline as well as the match as Seedorf picked up possession on the edge of the area and showed balance and guile to side-step Darren Fletcher and avoid the tackle of Nemanja Vidic before hammering the ball into the same corner of the goal as the opener.
The hosts did not drop their guard, but they certainly relaxed as the desire to gain control had been well and truly satisfied.
Before the break Pirlo drifted an uncharacteristic free-kick over the target, before the ineffectual Filippo Inzaghi had his only shot of the night, meeting an Oddo centre to hammer the ball wide of the post.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a poor night by his standards, but he did register one shot in first-half injury time, but it failed to trouble Dida.
After Pirlo had lifted another set piece over the frame of the goal, Kaká went close as he edged past Vidic before turning back to fire at Van der Sar from inside the area.
United then enjoyed their best spell of the game as they retained possession and were able to probe the well-manned Milan rearguard.
The only fruit that this period bore, however, was a drive from Fletcher, who had been fed down the right of the area by Wayne Rooney, that flew wide.
Ferguson held his head in his hands in the dugout as scoring then could have changed the face of the game and he must have known then that it could be, and would be, United's last clear chance.
Kaká shot wide at one end, while Ronaldo followed suit at the other, before substitute Louis Saha attempted an ambitious header that was off target before the third goal announced that the tie was over as a contest.
Gilardino was left unmarked in the 78th minute and the striker, who had only been on the pitch a few minutes, raced through the centre of the visitors defence before curling a right-footed shot past the approaching Van der Sar and into the net.
It was party time in Milan as the clock ticked down and the prospect of another meeting with Liverpool became a reality for the Rossoneri.

Congrats to Milan for reaching another final. It would have been murder if Manure got to the final.
Apparently Liverpool have already had a team meeting to discuss the final and have agreed on only giving you a 2-0 half time lead this year. We intend to win 3-2 in normal time this time around.
You wont be facing Brown, O'Shea and Fletcher in the final. It'll be Carragher, Gerrard and Mascherano!
Thanks for coming...
