What a poor deal for the average fan. 1 match per week only 25 live games from the 2018 World Cup, unless you subscribe to OPTUS on their streaming service or Fetch TV.Mackem Lad wrote:http://www.theage.com.au/business/media ... nl7k7.html
Re: EPL on FTA TV next Saeson
Those 39 matches of the 2018 World Cup which WON'T be on SBS include:
15 Matchday 1 or Matchday 2 Group Games
12 Final Group Stage Games (Remembering that you'll have 4 games on a single day at 2 kickoff times, but it is likely some of these will be dead rubbers involving 3rd vs 4th in a group on at the same time as * 1st vs 2nd, with SBS maintaining first choice)
8 Round of 16 matches
4 Quarter Finals
Also, Optus' alternate distribution model hasn't been made public yet. The alternative isn't necessary subscribing to Foxtel, but an online distribution model which isn't yet known (there may be a World Cup special, for example)
Trading that for 114 EPL games over 3 years is probably a pretty good deal for SBS

It shouldn't bother the Mackems, the Championship is still on FoxMackem Lad wrote:http://www.theage.com.au/business/media ... nl7k7.html

Really to see full range of football you need two pay tv platforms.

The whole of the World Cup is listed on the anti-siphoning laws, so dunno if this deal is technically legal.Union Jack wrote:Most of the world cup is broadcast live of FTA at present.

This is the big query at the moment, although we can probably blame the liberal government for the cost cutting at SBS.Slinky_Pete wrote:The whole of the World Cup is listed on the anti-siphoning laws, so dunno if this deal is technically legal.Union Jack wrote:Most of the world cup is broadcast live of FTA at present.

I do laugh when people wet behind the ears (actually you are a bit older now - one day you'll open your eyes) without a clue on the game or the way the world works make comments like these.

That gives FTA first crack at events, doesn't stop something being on a pay platform.Slinky_Pete wrote:The whole of the World Cup is listed on the anti-siphoning laws, so dunno if this deal is technically legal.Union Jack wrote:Most of the world cup is broadcast live of FTA at present.
Also, since SBS have already got the rights, could they not do as they wish? In this case that's on-sell some matches (don't like that, personally).

Totally agree!! It's getting to the point where free tv has bugger all on it and then pay TV is full of ads anyway!! I end up watching more sport on live score apps than anything else!!Cantona69 wrote:What a poor deal for the average fan. 1 match per week only 25 live games from the 2018 World Cup, unless you subscribe to OPTUS on their streaming service or Fetch TV.Mackem Lad wrote:http://www.theage.com.au/business/media ... nl7k7.html
