The Socceroos will return to ANZ Stadium in Sydney for the first time since winning the AFC Asian Cup Final to take on 2004 European Champions Greece on Saturday 4 June.
Besides a few fireworks before the game it was a pretty disappointing atmosphere. I expected more from the significant Greek presence there, it took them about 70 mins to get a chant going.
I find it very hard to believe that 33k showed up as well.
It appears that the Herald Sun enjoyed the atmosphere and our coach didn't have issues with the other team looking at the hugs he gave them at the end of the game.

Its pretty sad that someone ripping a flare in the streets of Melbourne is bigger news than two people dying in floods in Tasmania.

What do you expect rom the media, after all it is illegal to rip flares in Australia . No sympathy of those caught if they cop lengthy bans from football.

Of course, Sad for the people hoping to promote the traditional NSL clubs gaining more prominence in the game when effnik socka hooligans are "terrorising" the streets. TBH I wouldn't be surprised if the FFA are OK with this media exposure as it fuels their position.

Melbourne Greeks rightly boycotted the match.
Their culture was exploited for FFA gain, ticket prices were set at world cup prices and the FFA snubs them in the A-league.

The two games were two of the most spiteful and niggly 'Friendlies' I can remember the Socceroos playing in.
Most of it came from the Australian team. The Greeks reacted to the rough treatment which began in the 1st match.
Australians dont seem to understand the concept of "a friendly" and celebrate like winning a world cup when they win a friendly match.

If that's true then you have to laugh that the nasty Aussies were too rough for the little Greeks.

As I said, where has this animosity come from?
We weren't like this against the English or any other number of countries we have faced in recent times.

Greece just isn't a football nation that gets peoples interest anymore.
How many did we get to the game against Azerbaijan?
