On behalf of Adrian De Gregorio and the San Marco Football Club Committee we are deeply disappointed to announce that the club will not be able to function this year in the SAASL. This is due to a lack of player interest and support. We deeply regret the decision but no other choice was an option for this year. We aim to regroup over the year and make a commitment for next season. We know that many people hold the club very close to their heart and we know how disappointed many will be to hear this announcement but due to the lack of commitment we cannot commit to the league without a first team and reserves.
We would like to thank the supporters who have given their all in recent times and hope to get back into it as soon as possible!

Usually means another team gets promoted from the lower division. Who was next in line?Gristy wrote:if thats the case, i guess sth coast stay in div 3 saved by folding clubs again?

Re: San Marco Football Club Div 2 Players wanted
the precedent set a couple of years ago when Beograd folded would suggest Pontian Eagles and Para Hills Lions will be promoted to Div 2 and 3 respectively.

So if Fulhams numbers don't improve it could mean more upheaval?

Good - don't want to have to deal with them this year.fowler_23 wrote:That would mean ghan go up to div 2
We've had some good battles against San Marco over the years.
Their greatest ever moment (besides getting promoted over the years) would probably have been in 2012 against us.
Last game of the season with San Marco needing a win and us needing a draw to survive in Div 3.
At 0-0 they had a player sent off with about 15 minutes to go but somehow managed to grab a winner with 5 minutes to go (cracking diving header it was from memory!)
They survived and went on to finish 2nd in 2013 and get promoted to Div 2.
We went down to division 4 and ended up having 2 consecutive seasons of promotion to make it to Div 2 in 2015 (only to get relegated )

So they finally play in front of crowd .... Not sure they would get away with their antics against phe, Modbury vista, southern Knights etcfowler_23 wrote:That would mean ghan go up to div 2

Re: San Marco Football Club Div 2 Players wanted
Sad top see San Marco drop out. It was only last year that they were celebrating 30 years. Looks like everyone celebrated and then thought that is it for me.
Looking at the big picture I think many clubs will be going backwards in terms of numbers. Many clubs will be scaling back teams or even not fielding any. This is happening at many clubs.
There would be many reasons but the 2 that stand out to me is time poor and commitment.
The society we live in now is very fast and slowly more and more people are giving away time spent playing soccer or other sports.
People dont want to make commitments and finding volunteers is another battle.
I dont think it has anything to do with costs but it also could be a cycle thing where the current older generation is hanging up their boots and not enough have come through.

Re: San Marco Football Club Div 2 Players wanted
The San Marco players that want to stick to Sunday could move down the road to Adelaide Blue Eagles.
They have a few options for Saturday teams in the area. As mentioned Rostrevor / Pumas + Norwood / Athelstone etc.

Very shocked to hear the news that the club has folded. Had some good battles with them over the years.
That being said, any San Marco lads interested in still playing Sundays are more than welcome to come down to blue eagles to play. Pm for details if you're keen.

Thats prob half the issue. So many clubs in the North East some of which are literally 2 mins away from each other. BEagles MSSC BEagles, CCSC, San Marco, Metro, Norwood Old Scholars, Athelstone, Eastern United, ROCSC.POLONIAROCS wrote:The San Marco players that want to stick to Sunday could move down the road to Adelaide Blue Eagles.

I think a big trend is younger players are wanting to play with their school mates. So they go to their Old Collegiate / Scholar team. We went to 6 teams last yr with over 120 players. A lot of Collegiate teams both in SAASL & CSL have 4 or more teams easy.
