Credit must be given to the Sturt Marion Board for making such an important but difficult decision to withdraw from the WNPL.
Earlier in this thread, I called for whoever was left on the Sturt committee, to come out and be honest.

I gather that if this is true, last nights registrations (or lack of) have forced their hand.

Whilst I would thought this call should have been made earlier, if true, the right decision has finally been made and hopefully the FFSA will move quickly to promote a State League team.
Curious to know if players have been informed of this or if it's going to be dropped on them at the last minute to ensure they don't leave... assuming there is any truth in it of course.
Doubt many players who were striving to play WNPL would hang around to play state league when its probably still early enough that they'd be able to get a place at another WNPL club.

Aren't the State League teams also meant to have a First team and Reserves? Would Sturt be able to do this? With the numbers that some people on here have suggested, they'd be struggling to put two teams together even if the reserve team was mostly juniors.

Personally, I don't believe that Sturt will voluntary pull the pin. If they were going to, why wait until next week to tell FFSA as reported? Doesn't make sense to delay the decision, if its been made.

I believe Sturt will hold their ground until they are told (if ever) by FFSA that they are no longer in the WNPL.

Ultimately, it will make the FFSA look ridiculous if we get to start of the season and Sturt are missing a host of teams to meet the criteria and all FFSA can say is, 'but we were told by Sturt that they did meet it'.

Are Sturt the only club not meeting requirements?

I heard last night they had over 30 seniors register and quite strong junior numbers.

30 registered? That may be the case but no-more than 15-17 have trained (for the three senior teams), so find it hard to believe.

What we seem to have at the moment is lots of rumour- not much factual information to go on...The only ones who really know what's happening are the players, coaches and committee members at Sturt and to my knowledge, they're not posting (nor should they). I think we'll all just have to wait and see.

I would imagine that if they do withdraw or are removed from the WNPL, most of their bona fide prems players will go elsewhere.

Training attendances haven't been rumoured. I've heard from sources within the club and I don't see any reason why they would lie about numbers that barely make up a single squad let alone enough players for WNPL, Reserves and u/17.

Player departures are also not rumoured, but fact. I know of a number of players who have moved to other clubs.

Where do you stand on what seems to be the only validation of the WNPL criteria, is a club saying 'yes, we make the minimum requirements'? How should the WNPL criteria be properly validated?

Why then is it not reported that 24 players were training last night?

What player departures have there been?

At the moment is just seems like a bunch of people are trying to tarnish a good clubs reputation.

The FFSA need to step in and finalise all teams and their positions for 2016

FFSA has already done that by issuing the licenses. I believe as far as they're concerned it's a done deal.

Maybe it is about time we gave it a rest, let the powers to be worry about it.

Lets leave Sturt Marion alone , and all do what we can to ensure our own clubs will be ready to go when the season kicks off.

Fair point TG, but the issue goes beyond Sturt and other WNPL clubs struggling to meet the criteria.

There are clubs who have done all the hard yards, meet all the criteria, and have been allocated to the State League, but with hope of getting into the WNPL on MERIT this season. They in turn have players who will only stay if the club is promoted to the WNPL. It's a difficult situation for all.

The clock is ticking. I can only hope that the current WNPL clubs do meet the criteria, otherwise the whole selection process will be brought into serious question.

Surprised Sportbird didn't rush here to tell us all about it when they were sent out for draft 2 weeks ago

It appears there has been a backflip from the FFSA by producing the schedules early for 2016. It was issued to stop the uncertainty from all clubs.
The word now is the competition will go ahead regardless of any clubs not meeting the criteria by the first round.
Apparently, the FFSA have concerns that there are several more clubs in the same predicament and may not be able to meet the criteria.
This would be huge embarrassment for the FFSA and the competition trying to implement the new WNPL. The word has it, the FFSA will allow round 1 to proceed and after the completion of round 1, any club found to have not met the criteria will be fined accordingly but will be able to continue playing for the remainder of the season. The only reason why this may be happening, as someone stated previously in the forum, there is a conflict of interest between a certain club, players and an official.
Stay tuned in March.
