Time for some righteous indignation

I remember getting drenched watching them beat NZ 3-0 at Adelaide Oval, approx. 2009/2010-ish. Josh Kennedy got a couple from memory.

Yeah i cant recall any others since 05 either. Also from memory when we did get the OFC WC qualifier games in 2004, it was the first time we'd had an Australia game in Adelaide in about 6 years.

and I remember the new dawn media said at the time: "remember the bad old days of having to play world cup qualifiers to empty stadiums in places like Adelaide"BPBC wrote:Yeah i cant recall any others since 05 either. so Adelaide people could be forgiven for feeling a little alienated from this generation of Socceroos.Slinky_Pete wrote:Since the World Cup, we've played 39 games on home soil.

the nearest we get are Sony ads for some Adelaide kid to make a wish of attending a Socceroos game in Sydney

I can remember 2 games in adelaide since i've been here. One at Marden when a Millwall player scored a hat trick. Another at adelaide oval.
What was the attendance for these games?

maybe against Fiji without looking it up

Pretty sure it was Fiji.Grosso wrote:the Marden one may have been the OFC nations cup

Yeah Fiji 2004 at Marden, OFC nations cup was that what it was, was a great excuse to piss off from work. Also played NZ at Hindmarsh and I think Tahiti? All part of the same tournament. We got slammed for not filling the stadiums, and SA has had 1 nothing game since. Canberra is considered more worthy

Doesn't the "City of Adelaide" encompass North Adelaide and the Adelaide City Centre though?Grosso wrote:no one replied with the clever response of "not many, if any"
Re: 10 years since Socceroos qualified for 2006 World Cup
the answer would still be the same, however if you want to get technical I did write city of Adelaide, not City of AdelaideGod is an Englishman wrote:Doesn't the "City of Adelaide" encompass North Adelaide and the Adelaide City Centre though?Grosso wrote:no one replied with the clever response of "not many, if any"

Re: 10 years since Socceroos qualified for 2006 World Cup
at some ridiculous time of 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon wasn't it? Maybe people could slag Adelaide fans off about attendances for Oz games if they were provided with a decent game against quality opposition. I live interstate these days and theres always talk of games being tee'd up, not to mention the games that have been played here.kingswood wrote:... and played them at Marden before 1500 spectators.BPBC wrote:Yeah i cant recall any others since 05 either. That point would be valid if you wrote Adelaide city and not city of Adelaide.Grosso wrote:the answer would still be the same, however if you want to get technical I did write city of Adelaide, not City of AdelaideGod is an Englishman wrote:Doesn't the "City of Adelaide" encompass North Adelaide and the Adelaide City Centre though?Grosso wrote:no one replied with the clever response of "not many, if any"
So the answer is 1.
Re: 10 years since Socceroos qualified for 2006 World Cup
nobody refers to the metro area of Adelaide as Adelaide city or Adelaide City.God is an Englishman wrote:

Adelaide City means one thing and one thing only.

Just people don't call it that doesn't mean it's not the technical term.Grosso wrote:nobody refers to the metro area of Adelaide as Adelaide city or Adelaide City.God is an Englishman wrote:

You'd have been better off trying to claim you were talking about the ship in Port Adelaide.

Re: 10 years since Socceroos qualified for 2006 World Cup
The OFC Nations Cup in 2004 had 5 games in Adelaide - 4 at Hindmarsh & 1 at Marden.
Crowds: 12,130 (NZ) 1,200 (Tahiti) 2,200 (Fiji Marden) 4,000 (Vanuatu) & 3,500 (Solomon Islands). The Solomon Islands was the game we drew to avoid NZ in the finals.
The Sydney final leg drew 19,208 - so not a massive jump for the population.
The 2011 AO friendly vs NZ drew 21,281.
Two days later, there were 28,149 at Etihad to watch us play Serbia.
The games later in the year drew 24,540 (v Thailand in Brisbane WCQ), 24,732 (v Oman in Sydney WCQ) and 10,041 (v Malaysia in Canberra Friendly).
Our crowd numbers aren't rubbish compared to other States at the time.

that wording makes it sound like tanking or match fixingSlinky_Pete wrote:The Solomon Islands was the game we drew to avoid NZ in the finals.

NZ federation werent happy about it at all
still, if you create a qualification process that provides such an incentive, you cant blame the participants for trying to maximise their chances of progressing
