Adelaide United vs Western Sydney

Post by united92 »

For those who attended, thoughts on the game. 2-2 at FT. I thought AU were very slow to get into the game in the first 30 odd mins, which showed with the 2 goals conceded, but worked into it well and did very well to get a point, and should have snatched the game in the last minute.

Great to see the international and interstate players representing Adelaide international interstate united Football club.

Well done to the Local players who did exceptionally well on the day.

I think I saw only 2 or 3 local players on the pitch at anyone time.

The future is looking bright for future local upcoming SA players.

Love the sarcasm Sportsbird. I feel sorry for a number of talented girls who played for Premier League clubs this year. They were talented enough to at least be invited to trial. However, I will reserve judgement on whether some of the interstate and overseas recruits are actually better players than some of our local girls. I will watch all the W-League games before passing judgement, but I do suspect that some of our local girls are just as good if not better. We shall see.

Imagine a line up of local players of the following ;

____________KB_______________

Steer_______McCormack_____Checker _______Iannella

_____________holmes__________campionalli

Condon_____________chidiac_________________Hodgson

__________________ Quigley

Subs: Willacy Gk
MJ
DIBATELLO
SCALZI
WALLACE
Mcnamara
Rojas
Abbey
Dawber

if only this team could have play together, and nurtured properly. 20 local players that would have made a very good W-league team. that could play finals.

Thoughts additions comments, I know a couple are in US, although would they have stayed with a program that wasn't treated with such contempt.

Don't forget players who were in the same age bracket as Ruth Wallace who were part of the Young Matildas set up....Lilly Rydon, Nik Calder, Ashlee Faul.....add in Kathryn Ebbs, Ellie Chapman, Laura Johns. More recently Jess Waterhouse and Ebony Philcox......

Add all of these to the squad you mentioned plus the current talented NTC, Under 15 and Under 13 squads and you see there has never been an issue with talented players coming through the system (both SASI and the NTC for the last 4 years). Problem has always been keeping them together....at that point so they can develop into a W league squad. Of course, not all of them would have got there but many would and should.

The solution is not difficult.....well it shouldn't be. Problem is that it will continue to happen until it has been fixed. Dylan Holmes and Izzy Hodgson are the latest examples. Much time and effort and hard work by players, parents and coaches not translated into a good W league team. Pity really....but don't complain that 'we haven't got the population' or 'we can't compete with the Eastern states'. The evidence from the player pool shows that is not true. I know that not all of them will make it and every team is built from players from many places, but we have not used our talent pool effectively....at least that's what the evidence suggests to me
