This stuff just brings back bad old memories at School.
Playing soccer on the Primary School netball court and a Teacher saying you cannot play with the round ball on the court, Anglo background school children calling us wog ball lovers, calling us every unsavoury name under the clouds.
But guess what happened? I have conveyed this story before .
A teacher comes up to us wog kids and says we need Footy players to fill in the school side. We said Sir they are calling us names and picking fights with us. The teacher promised no more fights.
Reluctantly we joined got Thursday afternoon off school to play footy because of us in the side we started winning and we all became friends.
But we still got picked on for wearing low cut soccer boots on the footy park.
Now all AFL players Wear these types of boots today.

You could buy a House in the suburbs in the mid 1970's for approx $25k worth today approx $420k.

If any person or club or even the ffsa had a brain they would contact Skills Ready or It use to be called Skills for All, SA Govt program and put a paying soccer skills program together say for 2 years length clubs can use with the State and federal govt paying unemployment type wages to young players needed by clubs. After the two years decisions can be made if these players are needed, sold, signed on etc.
While on a kinda soccer apprenticeship they could also be doing another educational program or course in parallel with the soccer apprenticeship for later in life when the soccer career finishes.

Good discussion again.
I have dual citizenship thanks to my Dad.
If I was young again I would have a choice I could make and hedge my soccer bets depends how luck went in selection eg Greece or Socceroos.

In the post WW2 era of the Greek civil war if you were a Greek communist resistance fighter you were exiled out of Greece, many ended up in Tashkent Uzbekistan approx 30,000 Greeks raised their families there . My Dads sister was one. She and her family in the late 1980's. We're allowed back in Greece . She was in her late 60's. She went back to her husbands village with a low interest govt loan built a house. She still lives there she is 90years.

Churchill had drawn Greece on the Eastern block and then changed his mind thus Greece became politically unstable after WW2 , no food for people to eat, the Germans had taken the gold, the country was a mess.......
After the left wing Govt came into power in the late 1980's and letting the exiled families back into Greece like my Aunty was 100% correct and giving them semi compensation like low interest loans to built a family home was 100% correct.

Furthermore
If you watch the movie " Heleni" it depicted that era in Greek History, many eldest daughters in families in northern Greece then were taken away and forced to join the resistance fighters in the Greek civil war. My Dads village was right wing on the 15 December the family home in the village was bombed by plane by the nationalists . Lucky no one got killed. The 15th of December is my Dads name day " Eleftherios" his name meaning freedom.
His village saw Italians, Germans, Bulgarians, Nationalists, Communists, try take it over in History.
It is A Greek proud village in Northern Greece that has seen much havoc.
My Dads village " Flambouron"

The connection to the Adelaide Town ethnic named soccer clubs was this history to the homelands of our parents and their story that is why we liked to play and associate with these ethnic named clubs.
I have no association with the forced non ethnic name changes of today.

Didn't even know I'd have one deleted.
You know you won't get an explanation though.

The mods look after the boards as if it's their job (even though it's not). It's 'their' forum.
